There is the belief that there are several layers to the soul, sort of like the Freudian ID, ego and Superego. A lower self which is concerned with the basics of life, the four F's. (Feeding, fighting, fleeing and reproduction). This lower self is shed upon death, and a higher self goes to heaven. This higher self would be something like the superego, the higher thoughts, dreams, ideals, beliefs, and whatnot. What makes Tim, Tim.

Strangely, the belief says that memory would be lost too, shed with the lower self. So what makes Tim Tim would go to heaven, but not remember who you were.

"F" for reproduction... that's good. :)

The "higher self" is an interesting way of looking at it. In this interpretation, would that happen to all individuals upon death? It seems like everyone's "higher self" would seem worthy.

I like the shoe theory, but I dont belive in religion just spirituality,so heres my twisted view..lol
Heaven is a planet, and when our bodies decay our energy goes there, our real self, and maybe we stay or we come back to earth or maybe we go to another demension,I dont know I am but a Mear Mortal lol,all I know is that there is something bigger than me,and yes I do believe Its God,
And hell could be a state of mind, but you could argue that heaven is too...ahhhhh why did I have to read that,I am so frustrated now lol...Thanks alot...my brain is aching...Im in Hell!!!! lmao This could go on forever...I like the angel pin thing lol...And dude I dont want to stare at a shoe althoug....I have 56 pairs quite a shoe fetish aye?
love ya

Don't even try and say what Christians believe. You aren't even a Christian and know very little about a very complex religion. Different Christians believe different things. There are many interpretations of the afterlife. You don't even quote the Bible once! What are your sources? "Endless pleasure" is hopelessly simplistic? I would say your commentary carries the same quality.

The shoe argument is great. You set up a straw dummy and knocked it down. Hoorah!

Why don't try commenting on something RELEVANT or at least informed?

I can tell I'm going to need to clarify my own opinion on this person's writing.

I would not presume to say what all Christians believe. This speaks to one version of the idea of heaven that I'm not able to accept. In fact, if I had written it myself I would have made that more clear in the final statement.

Oh, my mistake. I thought YOU had written that. Now that I think about it, it seemed way too presumptive to be you.

When you go to heaven or hell you will be CHANGED?!?! NO SH*T GENIUS!! You won't have a body, will you?? I suppose you don't think any of the chemical processes or other biological natures affect who we are or what we desire?

The point, as I see it, is a question of how much change of self would be needed, before I am effectively a different self.

You will have to explain sometime how to quantify one's "self." ANY change of of one's self is technically a different self and in truth, no quantity of change will ever make one a different self. You will always be you. Sad but true.

Those of us who have good memories REMEMBER what we were like 20 years ago! And it's often embarrassing!

This is a silly discussion. Kind of like "How many angels can fit on the head of a pin?"

Maybe I'm weird, but something about being "turned into people who feel disgusted by a shoe" just struck me as highly amusing.
