Sure it counts...if you want it to...personally I like to depress myself by counting how many times I have to restart a project (like that damn gray afghan I started...it has been officially moved to the bottom of the knitting basket!) before I'm successful...but you could just start fresh and never have to fess up! Nice plan! lol.
