Last weekend
hazel_tree and myself went over to my parents house
They are off having fun in Ireland, and had asked us to come and water their plants.
We discovered that our car is grey inside, and red on the outside, and that the sun actually reflects off it when it's clean (my parents have a drive so it's easy to wash/vacuum our car there, especially when there's nobody else there).
Anyway, on Saturday, we decided to go to see if we could find a veggie restaurant that H had heard about on
Veggie Vision, called
Cafe Pulse which was in Leigh on sea.
We found it at about 5pm, and decided that was a bit early, so we drove down the road a bit until we got to the sea. We parked in Westcliff.
This is about a mile and a half from Southend, so we wandered in that direction.
The 'beach' was a narrow strip of slightly pebbly sand, actually on the Thames estuary, and it amused me to see people trying to pretend it was a proper beach, building sandcastles etc, on a 3m strip of sand.
It also amused me to find that you could still hire deckchairs for the day (£2.50) and it amused H that the women collecting them did so on bikes.
As we were walking along, H said 'Whats that huge thing heading out to sea, is it an oil terminal or something? In fact it was Southend pier!
It's a mile long, so it is quite impressive.
Unfortunately we didn't quite have time to go along it as our parking ticket was a bit too short for that.
They are still rebuilding the far end after a big fire earlier this year, so there are no facilities at the far end at all, but there are still trains running!
We will have to go back sometime.
The restaurant was excellent, having a good choice of foods for H, prompting the unusual dilemma of 'what do I WANT to eat' rather than what can I eat!
And H could have a maple and Pecan Cheesecake as well!
