I'm probably very unoriginal with this, but my favourite character is Atticus. Not just because of his keen sense of fair-mindedness and justice, or his attitude about being good at shooting, but for those moments where you get a glimpse of him trying to raise his motherless kids. I love the interaction between him and Scout in particular. There's something beautifully observed and very humane about how he sometimes struggles with his kids and yet finds a (over dry, humourous) way of raising them.
I guess that's the words I associate most with Atticus: humane.

Sorry if this sounds sexist, but I wish more men were like Atticus; someone who's fair minded, rational and do not revolve his life solely on sexual passion.
