So... My Laptop is Dead

Nov 02, 2010 15:06

First off, I need to see if the laptop is fixable. The backlight on my LCD turns off, which makes the computer functional, but I can not see very well. If anyone has information on that, I might not need to buy a new laptop ( Read more... )

My graphics card is about 3 generations old and it can't double box XI perfectly in large populations. (Pretty much only duo). I was actually thinking about just getting a monitor, except there aren't many companies that I would trust other than something like Viewsonic (which I had a monitor from and was VERY HAPPY with.) There was an Asus that was 156.00 on new egg, and another one that was a Hanns G for 99.00. Hanns G-- I've never heard of such a brand before. Asus I have heard of, but haven't read any reviews concerning how good are they.

pssh you said 500 to 800 range you big spender you! point was, that any Laptop or PC that you bought cheaply now would be able to handle it, as the graphics card to minimally run ffxi now you could pick up for less than a pack of smokes. If you're just running FFXI from it then anything you're going to pick up is fine :P

sounds like your LCD inverter just went out. they're usually fairly cheap. granted, it could be something else.... it sounds a hell of a lot like the lcd inverter died. replacing that will also be a lot cheaper than buying a new monitor so you can run video out of your VGA port.

but at that age it might be a better idea not to fix and just replace, or just get the lcd inverter temporarily as a band-aid until you have money set aside for a good, new box.

How would I replace a LCD inverter? I actually thought it was more of a overheat problem because it only happens when I play FFXI. Then again, it could be something else and I'm just imagining things. ATM, it is working again, but last night, even after restarting a couple of times, it doesn't come back on. Today, I tried again, I was able to go for 1 hour without it going out with me (and then it did it again). Right now, I'm on a 30 minute stretch, it can crap out me at any time! This is difficult especially in abyssea when I restart, I lose all my abyssea buffs =/

i was just thinkin... i bet the port on that laptop is VGA, so you'd need a .... female VGA to male DVI-D adapter to plug into the monitor if it doesn't have a VGA port on the monitor, which it doesn't state that it does. XD

lol sorry dood, just don't want you to get it later and be like "m!#$%@$%*cker! i can't even connect this POS!"
