An interesting and financially sound decision

I liked it. I enjoyed the camera work. I thought that it added to the movie. Sure the plot sucks, but I thought it achieved a lot in terms of special effects and atmosphere. The only off-putting thing to me, other than the plot, was the strong resemblance to 9-11. I know it was supposed to be a homage to it, but I thought it could be perceived as tasteless.

-Spoiler- Don't read if you want to be left in the dark about "Cloverfield" (Yes, I'm being nice!)

Yeah, when they got out of that convenience store and everything was covered in ash and people were discussing what they saw...that reminded me of 9/11. I just don't think that a hand-held camera should be used for a major motion picture, although it did add to the ground-level humanism and the single-perspective confusion that occurs during a terrifying event. Also, the helicopter thing in Central Park, I laughed like crazy when they were still alive...come on, get real.
