tsunami warning?

EDIT: 2005-06-14 10:25 PDT: Warning was cancelled a while ago; I took a look anyway, saw a big pile of nothing. Thanks for everyone's concern, though (even after I told you to not worry. Sheesh. Bunch o' virtual Moms...)

[Why not worry? Because. That's my place in the circle, and that's 5 flights of stairs down to the walkway ... which is ( Read more... )

We were driving home from Tesser's about when it would've hit - stuck in traffic in Oakland, by the bay! I'm glad we didn't know what was going on.

Didn't know you were up in the Bay Area at the moment... tell Tesser I say "hi!".

And for some reason I think that being on the inside of a big bay like that would mean that even a big wave would be attenuated by the time it got to the far side of the bay. Could be wrong, though.

I'll try harder next time. :)

Seriously, though, I wasn't all that worried; I figured that we'd at most see the water go over the walkway at the bottom of the bluffs. I'm about 10m up and 50m back from the water, so it'd have to be substantial for it to have any effect here.

(Similar to when we had the big Cedar Fire two years ago; people were calling me or my parents to make sure I was ok. First off, I was in New Mexico when it started getting huge; second, if my house burned down, there wouldn't be much of San Diego to come home to at all...)

Yeah. If that fire got all the way there, there would be a large chunk of San Diego missing.

Heh, similar story. This happened before you came here. About in...1996? we had the Harmony Grove fire up here in the North County. The fire burned close enough that at my home at the time, the yellow glow of the fire could be seen. Naturally this sent my mom into a panic. She loaded her vehicle with everything should could gather. Little naieve me at the age of...14 helped out mom. The fire stopped about some seven miles away.

Good idea to pick a place in a small circle of light. Must save on electricity bills. :D

Well, people always tell me I'm a bright guy...

Sheesh. You must be bored (or even more in need of distraction than usual!). I'd spank you for this, but then deliriumdreams would get jealous, and I don't want that... :)

[The final irony is that I much much prefer dark / dim environments; I'm all about cave-like settings.]
