Next November I will be 40. This one seems big. 30 just wasn't a big deal to me at all. My folks have always said that I have been 30 since I was about 9 so I guess hitting that milestone just felt like I was finally coming into my rightful state of being. Also, my twenties? According to the nutrition experts at the med school I do freelance writing for, the "healthy plate" is 1/2 low-carb veggies (broccoli, greens, etc.), 1/4 lean protein and 1/4 whole grains or high-fiber, starchy veggies (beans, etc.). Then there's sneaking little bits of exercise into the day, like parking farther away, taking stairs, that sort of thing. I really need to get back to trying to be semi-healthy because I've put back on all my flu weight.
Geeze, it seems like any time I've lost major weight, it's been from depression or illness, so I'm the last one to give advice in this area.

1. Calorie counted, I could have 1,000 calories a day of any kinds of foods I wanted, but everything else had to be fruits and veggies, Any type of sauce, butter or dressing counted towards the calorie count part.
This was difficult because it was a pain in the ass to figure out calories on stuff that didn't have a handy chart and eating out was worse. Unless they could tell me the calories (like at some fast food places)? I was stuck with plain salads and veggies, and who wants to pay restaurant prices for something you could just have at home.
2. Went completely vegan. The nice thing was I could still have sugar. I felt great on this "diet", but I missed cheese and sour cream and ice cream and butter and couldn't stay the course.
Both times I didn't exercise at all.
I'm actually going to be starting something new soon, but can't say if it works until I try it for a while.
