Wow, your honeymoon shots are FANTASTIC. How close did you get to the animals? What kind of camera were you using? (I'm saving up for a nice digital SLR.)
You know, it's not even an SLR -- it's an Olympus Camedia 750 Ultrazoom. There's even a newer model out now. When I was choosing a camera I was flip-flopping back and forth over the digital rebel or a semi-professional that could go entire manual. In the end I decided not to get the SLR bc I didn't want to have to lug it around all the time. This camera is more compact and I still don't want to lug it around all the time. Ultimately I ended up choosing btwn the Canon G3 and this one but the Canon only had a 4x optica zoom while Olympus offered the 10x, so it meant not having to carry around a lense. All this was a good choice bc in the end, I never took the photography course I meant to take (I'll do it eventually) and I have no idea how to use the manual funtions on either this camera or an SLR. Eventually when I buy the rebel, I'll take the course :p

Wow, the optical zoom really makes a difference. You have a good eye.
I have an old film SLR that has automatic nothing and I enjoy that alot but I am looking to upgrade to digital. We have a kodak point and shoot and we like it, but I'd like something with a bit more versatility. I don't mind carting around a bag full of camera equipment while on vacation. I took my film camera (and 3 lenses) to Hawaii last year.
Oh yeah there was this old dude on our first evening safari who had a whole backpack of equipment with him. I mean, he had like 2-3 cameras with him on every safari with variable lenses. I actually asked him if he was a professional and he said it's just a hobby. Every year he and a bunch of friends go on a photography vacation to remote places in the world. A couple years ago they want to Antarctica! This year they went to Botswana and Namibia then he added on Kruger bc he had to stay a full 3 weeks bc of some special deal he got on his business-class ticket. I think he said he took 10GB of shots over the 3 weeks! Then on our last day there was a guy who was an avid bird watcher. He actually brought a telescope and a tripod with him! I couldn't believe it when he ran from his table back to his lodge at lunch to grab his hubble-sized telescope to check out the animals on the other side of the lake. He had this setup where he could take photos through his telescope (so sort of like a zoom lense only way more powerful).
