toucing the satan pit void

Aug 06, 2006 21:21

hypothesis: the satan pit is partially a pastiche of the movie _touching the void_.

i saw it this weekend and am totally convinced. in the incredibly unlikely event that anyone has seen both, please do back me up or shoot me down on this one.

look, two posts. yay!

It is Fred Nietzsche with his mother.

And, in the book Joe decides there's no God, which is interesting because near-death people often find God. He decides it's in his hands - "I believe in her?"

I can't remember if that happens in the movie. But, seemed vaguely relevant.

ahh, i recognized fred from recently looking at edvard munch's portrait of him.

in the movie, joe does talk about having wondered if he would turn to god when up against death, and states that he never thought of doing it.

the doctor discusses religion while on the rope and, when asked what he believes, says "i believe i haven't seen everything."

so, when he says "i believe in her," is that like joe, or not like joe?
