I'm Carolyn.
While she 'casts, she tries to adjust to the eerie form of communication, so unlike any other telepathy she has encountered, honing in on that vague sense of familiarity among all the voices in the background. Finally she allows the voice of the machine that whispers to her, still, when she's not consciously surpressing it, and then she's certain. He has been in contact with them. The ones who carved her inside out and wanted to use her in their ships. He even has been in contact with a ship itself. But has it been as a victim, like Anna and herself, or as an ally, like those who sold out her and the other frozen telepaths to the Shadows? Trying not to be carried away by the horror and rage, she decides she must find out more. Besides, he mentioned Al. What if they intend to do this to Al as well, once they discovered he fights against them?
