Wow! I bet you thought you'd never see anything on this comm again. Well, I'm back...and I have some ideas brewing.
Recently, some of the Tin Man communities were deleted, for whatever reasons, by their maintainers. Notably, tinman_stills was among them. Since that happened, I've been considering reopening and expanding tm_challenge to incorporate an icontest. Some of you are on my personal flist and already know this. Others aren't, so I thought I'd give you a brief synopsis of what I had in mind and take a poll to gauge interest.
The first idea I had was to just rotate a weekly ficlet contest with a weekly icontest. Only the mod account would have posting access, and all entries would be posted to the prompt post in a screened comment. Voting would be done in another post with screened commenting. While the ficlet contests are taking submissions, the icontest would be up for voting, and vice versa.
Another idea would be to set up a larger cycle of contests incorporating an icontest, ficlet contest, and fan mix contest, possibly with the addition of a caption contest. This could be done with teams. Participants would accumulate points through the cycle by placing in the individual phases of the cycle. After the cycle is over, the points will be tallied and an overall winner or winning team will be announced. A cycle could run anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks.
As always, prizes will be shiny banners and bragging rights. I wish I could offer more, but, alas... Regardless of whether we do rotating fic and icontests or the cycles, all submissions and voting will be done through screened comments. And most, if not all, of it will be geared toward something that can be done in a few hours, if wanted. I want to do something that's quick and fun for everyone involved.
Of course, whether or not we reopen depends on whether or not there will be enough interest. So...let me know what you think! (Comments are screened, so feel free to say what you want.)
