MARRIED
This morning, July 20, 2008, urso and I were legally married in Pacifica, California. It's a small beach town just south of San Francisco. After much consideration, and in part due to some scheduling constraints, we decided to have a fairly tiny ceremony. I know many of you would have liked to be there. Since marriage was legalized for us in May, several of you have very generously said you'd try your hardest to attend, no matter how short the notice. Those offers meant the world to me.
To steal, err, paraphrase, cdwfs's speech from his own wedding, a wedding can be so ironic. You get to plan a big party and invite all your friends from all over the country! But if you're lucky, you spend a minute or two saying "Hi, thanks for coming, how are you?", and that's it. I want each and every one of you to come visit us in San Francisco. I want each and every one of you to watch NYPD Blue reruns with me (no more VHS! I got the first four seasons on DVD). I want each and every one of you to see Urso's collection of World's Fair and Olympic mascots (Hei! Ich bin Twipsy!). I want each and every one of you to crash on our surprisingly-comfy couch, and get woken up at 8am when our cat starts licking your forehead.
And to some extent, I get my wish. This summer, I've been lucky enough to see several of you already, in LA/SD, or here in SF ("Good morning, Baltimore!"). I'll see more of you in the coming weeks here, and in Kansas City (even if I was never a Meat Man), and in DC. Some of you, I don't know when I'll see next, but know that I'm thinking of you, and our couch (with complimentary kitty) is always open.
