I would like to propose a fanfic moratorium on the following words in conjunction with men and women, but mostly men ( Read more... )

To be perfectly fair, being on the receiving end of buttsex often results in a certain amount of whimpering. Don't ask me why, but it makes my voice goes up an octave or two, and that seems to be a fairly common experience.

Sure, I buy that. A person might whimper if they are in pain. Makes sense. However, whimpering and whining as an expression of pleasure sounds very contrived to me. I can't even imagine it really happening in an ordinary setting without really thinking the person was responding weirdly.

Pain? Buttsex doesn't hurt if you do it right.

Having, for some ungodly reason, watched a tragic amount of JGV's, I can attest to the reality of some dudes whimpering and whining the entire way.

Though obviously in reality, I doubt many dudes would.

I quite like reading it in fic though, where I can imagine it, ie JGV style with effeminate men, but the thought of an even remotely masculine man whining or whimpering during sex seems hilarious to me.

I always go to type those words when I'm trying to write sex, but can't ever bring myself to do it.

This is sort of what happens to me. I can picture a guy whimpering and wailing, whining and flailing, but he's not going to be the guy that we see on the TV. Certain words just lead to certain mental visuals, and while it might be fun' it breaks the characterization from a reality standpoint of an ordinary guy. Or at least it does for me. Obviously, most people don't mind, otherwise these words would die a quick death.

I mean, what's the image that comes to mind when an author writes a guy hissed something? I think of some sort of exaggerated neck roll, bulging eyes and dramatic use of tongue and lips. And perhaps a finger snap. LOL

OMG, you know what this all reminds me of? Chris Tucker in that movie with Bruce Willis and that girl from outer space! I see Chris Tucker in that movie when I read these words. LOL

Lmao if I had that mental image every time I read the word 'hissed'!

With flail, I see what you see, I immediately picture this OTT caricaturistic display, like one of those inflatable arm-waving tube men, but hiss is so prevalent, I don't picture anything weird. I just take hiss the way I assume people write it, as venomous attitude in whatever is being said.

I don't mind it? I think it's hard to think of alternate ways of describing that kind of speech. For shitty writers anyway lol. Hiss is easy.

I can't write that either though, but not because I think it's inappropriate, it just doesn't read well. It always seems really awkward in a sentence lol.

Well, if the author intends to express venomous, instead of the guy actually hissing, I can almost buy it. That makes sense, using it...metaphorically. LOL

With flail, I always see those beavis and butthead type guys, running around, flailing their arms, until their heads explode or their necks bend back and grow teeth...LOL

BTW, do you know when that Aussie task force show comes back on?
