Le sigh -- Batman and Robin

So...I never really write Robin, or the batfamily, really, other than Alfred. I just have no reading background in the Batman comics and don't know enough about all the ancillary characters to make the notion of a bunch of kids running around fighting dangerous criminals under the auspices of an obsessive-compulsive make enough sense for me to want ( Read more... )

I'm no help, but I will say both scenarios sound intriguing.

At the height of my comics fan days, I had a tremendous crush on Dick Grayson. So it never struck me as odd that Batman would have a teenager running around, fighting crime with him.

Anyway, my personal pick would be Scenario #1. That's mostly because of still not quite able to make the jump to seeing Dick involved with Bruce or Clark that way.

Hope somebody else can offer some real help.

I think Dick, as he's drawn now as Nightwing, is one of the most attractive (if not the most attractive) collection of lines in the DC universe. LOL I've always *liked* Robin. But when I write fanfic, I like to take things that are a bit caricatured in the comics or cartoons and extrapolate it out to a level of real world plausibility. It's really hard to do that with Batman's sidekicks because they are all so young, and they are often fighting psychopaths, and one has even died. No one these days would think it rational for Bruce to allow the kids to do what they do, so it's hard for me to ignore all that and simply write it.

But! I suppose that was then, this is now. LOL

I never write Bruce with Dick, but I could see Dick having a crush on Clark. I wanted to play with that concept, and I seem to remember that Dick developed a bit of a competition with Batman before he broke away. I sort of wanted to play on that too.

Anyway, we will see!

Thank you *so* much for your musings.

OMG, you're so wonderful!

Do you think that Robin at age...say 10, would be savvy enough to abscond to Metropolis? I would think that coming from a circus background, he'd be particularly adventurous and not scared to travel.

What age did he officially become Robin in most incarnations? Did they wait until his teen years? Sometimes, he looks really young.

Who are Dick's ordinary love interests? From back in the days of the Batman show, I wanted to hook him up with Barbara. Are they a popular couple? I see him hooked up a lot with Roy. Is that his most prevalent slash pairing (other than with Batman)?

I see Tim always hooked up with Connor. Why not Dick?

I didn't realize Clark and Dick had so much in common! This might be a heck of a lot of fun for me to write because I can parallel the commonality between Clark and Dick against the polar opposite of Clark and Bruce. Does like to like pull more, or is it really that opposites attract... :))

*hugs* You rock! Thank you!

Ooh! Canon fact: Dick went to Clark after he had the fight with Bruce in which Bruce 'fired' him after he'd been shot by the Joker and Bruce took the Robin identity away from him (which rankles Dick fans because Robin was partly from Dick's circus background). He was hurt and adrift and Clark told him about Nightwing and Flamebird, Krypton's greatest heroes, and Dick took the name Nightwing for his new superhero persona.

*lovely sigh* ;)

Tim's actually quite frequently hooked up with Dick, from what I've seen. The whole, "I met you at age three and remembered you so vividly that I could recognize you as Robin when I was nine and totally follow you around and take pictures of you," schtick of Tim's really does it for a lot of people (including me!) Tim's kind of the little black dress of fandom, he gets paired with Kon-El (Conner), Dick (the first Robin), and Jason (the second Robin) all the time, depending on who you read. I can link you plenty of good Dick/Tim if you're ever interested ( ... )
