So I had never heard of this until now (I'm not surprised, I'm just out of the loop). And did you see the hideous Vue knock-off sharing press release space with this car?

Holy shit, it's only 80 grand. Between that and the just over 100K IIRC Tesla, the future might not suck as much as I thought in the automotive world.

Mercedes needs to get their shit together, as do the other 2 big German manufacturers if they don't want to be raped by inevitability.

This is all but unrelated, but do you remember the Dodge Demon concept from a couple years back? $15,000, 200ish horsepower, RWD, mid 2000 pound range, but very little goodies to keep price and weight down?

Well, they're going to make it. With just 2 catches. FWD and manufactured in China.

I remember the Demon concept and was sad to see it's going to be FWD, but someone made a good point by saying 'are the majority of the people buying in this segment (Miata/Solstice/Sky/Demon) even going to know/care whether it's FWD or RWD?' With Chysler under Cerberus they're likely going to be looking to make this car as mass-market as possible, and if that means sacrificing RWD to achieve the $15000 price point than so be it. At least the Challenger is being released largely un-fucked with from the concept.

I can mostly agree that someone who wants a solstice or sky but can't quite justify the price may well lean toward the Demon, as well as a number of poor-ass younger folk who want something that looks fast, even though the demon's pretty ugly.

On the other hand, if someone was going to buy a miata despite the "fag car" reputation, they will certainly realize that FWD is wrong wheel drive for them. This may be wild stereotyping, but people who buy a Miata anywhere close to new tend to know their car shit much more than someone who buys a Honda civic new.
