If a child's learning style works in the classroom setting and he or she can excel, then certainly the competition and validation that comes with success can be joyful and exciting. Many, however, are the ones who are failing, not succeeding - and for them, there is little joy, and dread rather than excitement.
If the learning environment causes nausea, vomiting, a knot in the stomach and is anticipated with dread, not pleasure, then it is associated with such negative feelings that the process of learning itself becomes something to avoid. Since life requires ongoing learning, resistance to the process dooms those who see it as painful and wish only to put it behind them.
