I was very excited to read this novel. This book piqued my interest sometime before Thanksgiving last year when my cousin suggested I pick it up. At the time, I was in the mystery classics class and was unable to muster through those stories much less read something else. I knew if I picked up something that really interested me, I’d have a hard ( Read more... )

Actually, I was a little turned off (by which I mean overwhelmed) by the number of POVs in this book myself. However, like you, I enjoyed it despite that one minor flaw. I have no idea how they're going to make this into a movie without hacking the hell out of it. Let's hope someone figures out a way, because to cut large chunks out of this would be a travesty.

This movie will either suck royally, or be fantastic. There will be no in-between.

I agree that there were too many POVs and that they kind of all melded together. It does feel like a single voice throughout, instead of individual voices.

As I was reading the novel, I commented to my husband about I don't know how they'd make it into a movie. He suggested that they may just do it documentary style, as the novel is. Kind of like they show the person doing the interview and then they go into scenes after introducing the interviewee. If they did this, though, I really think they'd need to cut a lot of the interviews, since there are so many. Do movies ever live up to the novels they are based on, though? Rarely, in my opinion.

The POVs were a bit of a problem for me, too. I also found that the characters eventually began to run together. The biggest question I had afterward was how a writer could avoid these pitfalls given the (totally cool) style of the book. Perhaps fewer interviews would have cleared things up, but then the story would have had to change a bit.

I agree, all of the POVs were distracting. This is why I feel that this would have worked better as a trilogy. This way there would have been more room for character development.

I agree that there were to many POVs. I like the idea of multiple points of view and I think it would have worked better had the author selected a handful to work with.
