Soapbox: Alien vs. CGI

Here’s a soapbox moment: The scope of this movie is something that is unequaled today. I personally think that one of the worst things to happen to modern cinema is the inundation of computer generated graphics. I agree. When CGI is used as a tool, not as a crutch, it's excellent. I Speilberg's technique for Jurassic Park was brilliant...he used both early CGI and models, but they took the time on this one to make the CGI dinos NOT look blatantly like animations. I think JP is one of the strongest uses of CGI we've had yet. Stan Winston, who did the amazing creatures in The Thing, did the animatronic dinosaurs.
