Yoko had always had fairly good intuition. Her one lack in judgement had been getting involved with Umbrella, and even that had worked out in her favor, in the end.

She was still as socially inept as ever, though, as evidenced by the fact that she was still standing in front of his door, hand going up to knock and then down again. Even though she'd spent weeks trying to track him down, without leaving any traces for Umbrella to follow (if they found her it was one thing, but if they found him because of a mistake on her part it was another), she was still too fucking scared to knock.

It was pathetic. She'd faced down a Tyrant, one of the company's pride and joy, and yet a two inch thick wood door was getting the better of her.

Finally, her hand knocked without her brain's consent, and she only had a few moments to panic on the thought that he likely wouldn't recognize her from the shy computer nerd image of two years ago. That night in J's Bar had transformed her... transformed all of them, really, that had went through it.

Kaplan had just been headed in the direction of the kitchen when the knock brought him around, his hand flying to the holstered 9mm handgun at his side, sliding it free of it's bindings and walking over to the door cautiously, standing to the side of the doorframe and craning his head so he could see through the peekhole.

He really needed to get around to installing those damn cameras soon, he was going to get his head blown off doing this.

He blinked, seeing it was a girl. He blinked again, seeing it was a familiar girl.

Then, he opened the door, weapon still in hand, just wide enough so he could slam it shut if it wasn't who he thought it was.

If she was from Umbrella and here to kill his ass, well. He'd have a couple of seconds to rig something up to take out his data so they wouldn't know what he had dug up, maybe make a daring leap out the back window into the alley....

A fall that would very likely kill him, and he didn't like the idea of it.

"...Yeah?" Don't get excited too quick, Kaplan.

Running a nervous hand through her short hair (short! it was short! no more long hair and glasses, and somedays she still missed them), she smiled a little, although it felt unfamaliar. She hadn't had much to smile about lately.

"Hi Chad. You look... good." Considering what had happened to him, what Umbrella had done to him, and two years on the run... well, he was looking a lot better than her, in any case.

"Do you mind... I mean, it's..." She gestured at the open hallway. Anyone could hear their conversation, and she'd really prefer that they weren't overheard.

Kaplan blinked then opened the door a little wider.

Had to be Yoko. No one had ever actually used his first name. Well, outside of his mom. He'd been Kaplan, or 'Kap' most of his life.

"Yoko. Been a while." He really didn't have a clue as what the hell to say. He'd expected to be the one to track her down. Not vice-versa.

"Yeah. Me too." He rubbed the back of his head, falling back into the chair again. "Thanks to you."

She couldn't look at him at that, twisting one edge of the pillow absently. "I just did... what anyone would do."

"No, what anyone would've done is mind their way and the big fat paycheck that Umbrella was giving them to mind it." His hand curled into a fist absently as he thought about it.

He'd been guilty of it too, really. Left the Navy because Umbrella was going to pay him far better than they could.

She made a helpless gesture with her hands. "I... I couldn't just stand by and do nothing. You were my friend, and the things Umbrella did... If I had been smarter, I would have gotten you out sooner. It's my fault... you were in there as long as you were."

Because she'd been stupid, hadn't acted when she should have.
