Selecting colors for my graphic design is the single most time-consuming part of my process. I usually have to set aside at least an entire day to fiddle with color schemes. Generally, it takes about 8 hours- which I work into my other tasks over the period of a few days ( Read more... )

reminds me of when i was in journalism school. thank god our student newspaper was done in grey scale with one accent colour. but in my design classes colour always made me stress. we had to make a zine once and i chose to do grey scale only. i couldn't deal with colour. i used colour for my newsletter and i ended up being late to hand it in. it did look good though.

we never did anything in grayscale at my crappy university. Well, in basic design we did some black and white reductions and things.

I'm actually really good with color theory. It's one of my strongest areas. I always remember using a million colors in my paintings. I would try to limit myself to only a few colors, and end up with every shade of every damn color that exists. People liked it though.

I think that's why I find it so hard to select colors in graphic design- you simply cannot use a bazillion colors. It's too visually confusing. I try to keep it limited to like 5 colors total on each project. Plus it's limited further by the fact that you have to have a couple that are light and a couple that are dark, that will look good on top of each other and underneath furniture.

I would be trapped forever in Color World. Either that or I would choose colors at near-random in a desperate attempt to preserve what's left of my sanity.
