dude! there's hebrew on my friends page! I just upgraded my lj from S1 to S2 ... is this why I suddenly see Hebrew? Or is this a first? That seems unlikely. Some part of me seems to remember that it used to come up as question marks ...

anyway, its really pretty. i can't read it, (I know like six or seven letters in hebew, its really quite sad. and yes, most of them are the ones on the dreidel ...) but i'm gonna go out on a limb and guess it says something witty and brilliant like "L'Shana Tova!" Am I even close?

Yes, it's about Rosh haShanah, but it's slightly less happy. It's a line from the liturgy. My prayerbook translates it as You will open the Book of Chronicles - it will read itself, and everyone's signature is in it.

It's an image I was first taught when I was very young and it is still with me - The Book of Life is not just some left-aligned, computer printed out list of everyone in the world's names. It's literally the signature of every person. Our very own behavior and attitudes and life determine our outcomes, nothing more.

You, God, open the Book of Memories, and it reads itself, for it bears the signature/sealing of every human being.

hi! i'm writing to you because you're on the friendslist of introducingyael (formerly bluejeanjexy). i'd like to get a gift for her from lj friends who are interested in chipping in. i know what she needs and i am working on wheeling and dealing to get it. i just want a sense of who would put in and how much, but i won't collect any money until i've already spent it. i know she really wants a bugaboo bee stroller which would work for moo and/or for the grape and would fold well for her building. please let me know if you're interested and how much you'd like to put in. my email address is ellen.sande@gmail.com. apologies if you get this message more than once.

thanks!

ellen
