Just a quick suggestion, Ike tore up the entire Midwest, so check ahead for areas that are having issues with electric and the availability of gasoline. I know that many areas in Nashville were completely out of gas today.

Seconded. On my way home today, I was seeing signs indicating that on the way to Houston, gas was very limited. Unless you are set on visiting New Orleans on the way, go via I20 to Dallas.
