Cycling with a laptop?

I'm considering cycling between the train and work, instead of bus followed by walking. I'm worried about how my laptop would be affected in the long term, and is it better to carry my bag on my back or on the carrier? Does anyone have any experience cycling with a laptop?

I recommend a crumpler. I've dropped my laptop in a crumpler onto a street (I was on a motorised scooter and it seemed like a good idea to put my laptop under my arm) and it was completely fine. I'd recommend a backpack/rucksack/schoolbag/whatever though.

I tried to look at crumplers last night, but their flash page didn't work. Tonight, I see a very weird page, without much useful information :( I'm pretty happy with my bag, I might just add some more padding; it's a proper laptop backpack, with good padding already. I guessed that a backpack would be better than putting it on the carrier, but it's nice to get someone else's opinion :)

I hope Joel is feeling better, it must have been pretty bad to last 36 hours :(
