Heartbroken

George Carlin is gone. I am so stunned. I never would have predicted he would die at such an early age. It may sound weird, but I don't think of thin people being susceptible to an early death. Yeah, I know he did drugs and had heart problems, but my Dad is still kicking so I'm surprised George isn't ( Read more... )

We saw him Albuquerque a few years ago. We were hoping to see him again. How old was he?

Yes, 71. Sorry I didn't comment sooner. Yesterday was our company picnic so I was out half the day.

Maybe 71 isn't early or young in the grand scheme of things. But lots of people are living into their 90s these days.

That belief that thin people are somehow sorta immune to early deaths is one of the problems with fatphobia. The focus on obesity=automatic death causes people to believe the inverse is true (thinness=immortality).

And yeah, we will miss him. After all, aside from everything else he did, he was the voice of Thomas!

So true. And having been overweight most of my life, you would think I wouldn't fall into that line of thinking. Plus, I know I'm in good health myself because I get regular checkups. You really have to fight against the stereotypes.
