It's been a few days since my last bitching-session. mainly because my commute has been decent. Why is it that we are so often compelled to speak out or write as a result of terrible events

Oh, this is lovely, and I especially love the last line. :) I've often wondered how I would fair on a commute like yours. It would be wonderful to have that time to read, sitting or standing, but I think I'd get motion-sick. Do you have a hard time reading in a car? I wonder if it's different. And on the sitting/standing note, what happened to chivalry? Aren't the men supposed to give up their seats to ladies? I suppose that's long since dead. And what about your new IPod? Do you use that on your commute? I love leaving work early. It gives the afternoon a different vibe. You're out and about with a different set of people, not the ones concentrating only on cutting you off so they can arrive .005 seconds earlier at home after a long day at work, but the soccer moms running errands and the errant students....

dead. yes. The men usually do NOT give up their seats for women. I struggle with this sometimes.... I know they are tired too, but it still often rubs me the wrong way.
on my new MP3 player (which is NOT an iPod... I do NOT want one of those - another discussion), I do use it often... but it's always been hard for me to read (especially serious non-fiction) and listen at the same time... Plus, if I'm at all tired or have a headache, or simply feel 'quiet' within myself, I just don't want anything buzzing in my ears. I always carry it in my bag -- as a defense mechanism against subway noise and irritation. But I most often use it when I'm already in a fairly bouncy mood already and want to rock out:)
