So the addendum to my story on the damn imaging drum for the printer is that after I put in the new drum from Staples (giddy with excitement, almost kissing the delivery guy), I found that the printer drum was not causing the current problem with the printing.  After another 40 minutes on the phone with the HP guy (who was much more thorough than

Oh, you sound like me! Image drum? What? Where does that come from? Dots on my papers? Blue toner everywhere?! What the hell!

The good news is that once you figure these random things out (there will probably be a few more of these sorts of issues), you're pretty much golden.
