I'm Mike, your Big Eagle from the Noble House of Ravenclaw at Hogwarts_Elite. I'm here to offer any help you need getting settled in and used to the community. I can be reached by e-mail at jclinch@woh.rr.com, or you can comment on any of my LJ posts. I'll be out on a Boy Scout trip until Sunday, so don't expect an immediate answer.
If nothing else, we can continue discussing how to sort Civil War generals. I'll suggest General Custer as the sort of bad Gryffindor with more boldness and courage than sense and ideals, bordering on Squibhood. I'm basing that more on his activities after the Civil War, leading up to getting his unit wiped out at the battle of the Little Bighorn.

Phew, I am just coming off of a rather exhausting weekend. Sorry for the delay in a response!
I think I am doing pretty well in the community, though I still have some exploring to do. I enjoy making icons, so I am going to try to get involved with some of the contests if there is still time. And then there is always sorting.
Hmm. Custer is a very good one. Because he certainly was bold, but that boldness led to his downfall. He was foolishly arrogant, and that got himself and his men killed. Does that make him a Gryffindor? I suppose so. Or maybe Slytherin-- he was obviously ambitious and independent, as evident by his last actions. I think it is hard to put someone definitively into one house. Certainly people possess qualities of each. I don't know how the Sorting Hat does it, LOL.

It's good to hear you are settling in. Please feel free to jump right in on any contests (except for LIMS - Last Icon Maker Standing - you have to start that at the beginning of the term) and on any of the fun in the common room
( ... )
Hmm, I did not know that little tid-bit about Custer wanting to make peace with the Indians. I cannot imagine how that would have worked out. The Native Americans had no reason to trust the United States government, and even less of a reason if said government was run by George Armstrong Custer. I just do not see any way one could justify the Indian Wars.
heyy, it's me from a million years ago. i commented a while back at the old place, but i've been missing your entries, and i'd love to be your friend again. let me know and i'll add you pretty much immediately. :)
No worries, my life has been all over the place recently too but I finally got around to making some icons tonight. Welcome aboard Sarich Community and my flist!

And thanks. You know me and my weakness for Patrick Wilson.

I've also created a Sarich graphics (icons, banners, everything!) community, if you'd be interested in joining and/or particitipating.
Regardless, I'd still like to be friends and view some of your work and thoughts...maybe even discuss common interests, etc.!
