i learned about squirrels too! there are so many of them here! they have learned all sorts of ways to get into the trash cans that they eat so much they are fat and waddle instead of scamper. we've seen them fall out of trees too. they also have a sort of clucking/growling sound. but yeah, totally not what you'd expect from cartoons. oh yeah, and if you are walking around at night and see squirrels running around, remember, they aren't squirrels, just their hairless tail cousins... ie rats.
it sounds like you've been enjoying grad school which is awesome. hope it stays that way for you!
Those squirrels can get bold too. There are a whole bunch where I work, and they just scamper right in front of cars and stuff. "You're on my land, dude. I don't care that your wheely-thing is fifty thousand times heavier than me. You will stop for the squirrel!"
I put voices and names to the ones I can recognize. Is that weird? >.>
PS Sorry to intrude on your journal. We've a mutual acquiantance in Manda. :)
