Although livejournal is usually used to express someone's pathetic whining and complaints, I think it can be used to express real and important thoughts. Let's try together!
Are people born with genetic traits and dispositions or is it our choice or both? For instance, do "natural talents" exist?

I do think that natural talents exist, not in everyone, but they do exist. And yes, if you're exposed to something at a young age, it will be easier, but there are people out there that can pick something up so fast that they've never been exposed to...so what's that?

For example, say two people are exposed to the same things throughout their lives, then one chooses to go into art and the other into the field of science...they pick these different fields because they excelled at them. They're both good at each, but for some reason they are just better at their chosen field, which is why they chose it. What compensates for that difference if not a natural talent ( ... )

First of all, you say that "say two people are exposed to the same things throughout their lives..." but that's impossible to happen. You could say that two people have the same social places like money wise, good parents, good education, etc, but they are still not exactly the same. Of course, everyone has had an idea of "if you put two people on an island..." etc. but that's impossible too, well not impossible but just cruel. But language cannot be innate because language is developed. I think what Chomsky means is that we have about 100 million years of evolution to build off of and I don't mean this in the information sense, i.e. books, journals, etc. but more like our brains have 100 million years of information that has been stored up from our evolution. How else can we explain the telescopic rate of technological evolution? Basically, it is that all the experiences of our ancestors, our race, has built up like a evolutionary memory that we can build upon, unknown that it is even there. Basically, our brains are smarter ( ... )
