Here's how HBP affects IMR4MR:
1) Snape's mother
*groan* I love Snape's mother in IMR4MR. Now that HBP confirms that Eileen Prince is a pureblood witch married to a Muggle...(Tobias Snape) ~_~
I am so in love with the mother in IMR4MR that I don't know if I want to rewrite her...
What I don't get is: if Eileen is a pureblood Witch and her husband is only a Muggle, why did she endure her husband's abuse?
And how did Snape manage to learn all that hexes and curses?
I feel like JKR is forcing the parallel between Snape and Voldemort...
The alihotsy must be slipped in by someone else. (It couldn't be Tobias Snape because magical ingredients become useless in Muggles' hands. It couldn't be a house-elf either because s/he wouldn't obey Tobias.) Tobias Snape can still be abusive and evil even if he's a Muggle and didn't directly poison Eileen.
So...maybe it was Mr. Prince instead? If it _was_ Mr. Prince who's the ultimate evil, what's his motivation? Wouldn't he have poisoned his abusive son-in-law instead?
Or...it might simply be Eileen's suicide. Whether it's intentional or not, that's arguable.
If the first attempt was Eileen's suicide...who continued slipping alihotsy into Eileen's tea?
Maybe the slow poisoning of the later episode is by Mr. Prince? But again, what's his motivation?
At this point, Eileen wouldn't have the presence of mind to filch alihotsy for her tea...
~_~ I'm tempted to just leave this part be...
2) Snape's childhood and Hogwarts years
How HBP affect IMR4MR Snape's childhood and Hogwarts years:
a) Snape does NOT live in Snape Manor (because there isn't one, lol). He might or might not live in Spinner's End in IMR4MR. So...maybe he initially lives with his parents but then live with his grandparents? Or live with his grandparents during the summers?
Snape somehow has access to hexes and curses pre-Hogwarts. Does this mean he lives with his grandparents? If so, when did he witness his father abusing his mother?
b) Snape gets his pureblood pride NOT from his parents (his father being a Muggle and his mother willing to marry a Muggle).
So maybe from his grandparents? Or maybe his grandparents were not _that_ prejudiced against Muggles until they see how their daughter is abused? (Eileen's parents probably are Slytherin. Not Hufflepuff). And then his stay in Slytherin just exacerbate his disdain of Muggles.
c) Snape is pretentious in his Hogwarts years. I mean--"The Half-Blood Prince"? *snort*
"The DADA Instructor Formerly Known as Prince."
Or maybe Snape was insulted (sarcastically) as "the little Prince" and adopted the title of HBP instead. Maybe Sirius knows the Princes.
3) D.E./double agent/spy Snape
...I'm still not sure how Voldemort and D.E. will play in IMR4MR. Because only Dumbledore knows of Harry's existence. And IMR4MR is v. v. AU and all.
HBP doesn't make me think of Snape as evil. On the contrary, I see him as almost noble. I think Snape will be instrumental in Voldemort's downfall in Book Seven. He'll probably die to save Harry and/or Draco, thus fulfilling his Wizard's Debt to James and Unbreakable Vow to Narcissa. *whistle* Don't you just love the parallels?
On the other hand, IMR4MR has v. v. low death count: Snape's mother, Harry's parents and the boy on the neighboring planet. Four people.
So should I try rewriting (parts of) IMR4MR to make it fit canon? Or should I just slap a "pre-HBP" label on it?
I probably can rewrite IMR4MR to fit HBP once I puzzle out the above questions, but I've fallen in love with the back-story that I've created for Snape's family. *sigh*
...on to things that actually _fit_ IMR4MR:
1) Horcruxes *g*
2) Dumbledore's statement re: Harry's strongest power. (This will come into play in that back-story for chapter 5 and 6)
Please comment. HBP seems so surreal--it reads like a lot of mediocre fanfictions rolled into one, lol.
