 Medieval massacre site found in Dorset

In June archaeologists and workers expanding a road in Dorset discovered the site of a grizzly medieval massacre, which perhaps was the result of Viking raids in the tenth or early eleventh century.

They found the skeletal remains of fifty-one men, all decapitated before their bodies were thrown in a pit. ( Read more... )

'spose they could have been a little more organised
this pile is from this boat, this one from the other...

51 is such an odd number
i wonder if the body/head pile is the same or
if some one saved a souvineer(sp) to make into a goblet or such

so many bones so little time!

Chris, for an archaelogy buff like me, England is the place to be. Seems as if you can't put a spade into the ground without stirring something up.

This is interesting. I would like to see it BUT I would not want to be one of the workers on the road crew that found them. I wonder if the workers had any idea the find was so old.
