I've just recently discovered our library's audiobook section. Rented out Dante's "Divine Comedy", which for some reason they have on three separate disc boxes, so instead of one item I had to rent three.
I only listen to audiobooks I've already read before, but the quote at the beginning of your post caught my interest!

i have a hard time choosing audiobooks because i wanna listen to the story but it's got to be the right voice, else i just tune it out and miss everything.

As I realized yesterday when I put the CD in, they translated Dante new for the audiobook so it's no longer lyric but prose - no doubt because very few people these days can read poetry right - but the result is pretty gharstly.
