History:
herePersonality:
Growing up with the Doom Patrol, Beast Boy was a junior member and he knew it. In a flashback with them he's shown to be a rather timid boy: torn between his natural compassion and the strict “only the mission matters” ideal imposed by his mentors, Beast Boy was often chastised and lacked much confidence. When he struck out on his own and found his way to Jump City, he saluted Robin and insisted on calling him “sir” upon their first meeting. It wasn't until after the team was formed that his personality shifted. The equality and camaraderie with his new team blossomed an entirely new attitude in Beast Boy, one that revels in and milks every last bit of freedom it gives.
In a team filled with serious sallies and grouchy guses, Beast Boy's role is definitely clear-cut: he's the comic relief. Light-hearted and impulsive, he tends to lack a brain-to-mouth filter, saying whatever comes to mind-whether it was better left unsaid or not. Joking, for which he had previously been admonished for doing by the Doom Patrol (
*), became his biggest defining trait. Beast Boy likes to pull pranks on and engage in recreational activities the rest of his team; however, sometimes he blurs the line between the two, and has at times angered his teammates with his thoughtlessness and juvenile sense of humor.
Which came and-in-hand with arrogance. Beast Boy has cut ties with every limit set on him by the Patrol, and as a result now has a hard time setting them back. He often lets his guard down in fights in order to gloat over something, thus forcing one of his teammates to save him. In a more domestic example, his teammate Starfire was once on the receiving end of a prank that was meant for Cyborg, another teammate who had previously pranked Beast Boy. Rather than apologize to her or even say that it was a mistake, Beast Boy instead asked if she couldn't take a joke, angering her further. While he very obviously showed regret for what he'd done afterward, he doesn't outright apologize to her until later in the episode (and only when believing she was crushed by falling debris).
Over the course of the series Beast Boy strikes a balance between freedom and responsibility. When the Doom Patrol appears later in the series, their ways have not changed; however, Beast Boy stands up to them when he previously would not, phoning the Titans for help and even confronting his mentor directly about his style. And in the series finale arc, he took the head of a ragtag group of heroes when the Titans were put out of commission, leading them against an entire brotherhood of villains and maintaining this position until Robin was rescued.
It should also be noted that Beast Boy is a vegan (inaccurately referred to as a “vegetarian” in the series, as he refrains from eating poultry and dairy in addition to meat). He has strong feelings against meat consumption, as he in his own words has been most of the animals typically eaten. The food he's eaten in the series is usually (if not always) tofu or another soy-based product, such as soy milk.
Finally, due to his animal DNA Beast Boy has many feral habits, sometimes sitting with his feet on the couch, drooping his ears when upset, or crouching in a frog-like position when observing something.
[*The Doom Patrol's treatment of young Beast Boy wasn't highly detailed in the cartoon, but was expanded upon a few times by the comic book series based on the show. This is a cap of the page supporting the made statement.]
Strengths:
Physical-
• Beast Boy can change into any animal you can imagine, gaining its physical form and all of the characteristics that come with it-including strength and speed. He also keeps a fully conscious human mind while changed (with the exception of his first few transformations into the Beast; he uses this form again some time later, and it's not made clear whether or not he's developed control.) So long as the animal exists, all Beast Boy needs to do is see it in some form and it will be added to his repertoire of creatures. This includes anything from extinct dinosaurs to creatures native to another planet to microscopic organisms.
• His abilities makes him very versatile both in combat and out: lost something or someone? A dog to find the trail. Need to fly? He'll change into a pteranodon and give you a lift. Has your submarine just exploded and you're drowning? Beast Boy will turn into a whale and net you in his mouth, carrying you to safety.
• He can change from one animal to the next without ever having to shift back to his human form; this enhances his already impressive versatility, allowing him to do things such as slither out of an enemy's grip as a snake when he was grabbed as a gorilla.
Mental-
• Beast Boy is incredibly quick-thinking and adaptive, able to change into the animal that best fits the constantly changing situation. In the blink of an eye he'll switch from offensive T-Rex to evasive falcon to defensive turtle without pause or break, taking impressive advantage of his powers.
• He's well-versed in pop culture, which helps against one of Jump City's villains: Control Freak, a nerd with a reality-bending remote who often bases his crimes on movies.
• He's shown to have good leadership skills when pressed, scraping together a team of honorary Titans and successfully carrying out a full assault on the Brotherhood of Evil. Although Titans were rescued one by one he relinquished the position only when Robin, the original Titans leader, was saved.
Emotional-
• Beast Boy is quite empathetic. Although he was raised by the Doom Patrol to put the mission above all else, he consistently shows a greater care for people, even refusing his mentor's orders as he matured.
• Even having lost both his parents and brought into a life of crime-fighting at an early age, Beast Boy retains an upbeat attitude. Though his jokes are usually met with distaste, he makes it his mission to brighten whatever room he's in, even go so far as to vow that he would make his teammate Raven smile one day.
• Beast Boy has the ability to learn from his experiences and the advice of others. When dealing with the aftermath of his transformation into the Beast, a lumbering werewolf like creature incapable of intelligent thought, Raven consoled him by telling him that the Beast didn't define who he was-knowing when to let it out did. Although Beast Boy quickly diffused the mood with a joke, the message very clearly went across, and the form (normally caused by extreme anger) wasn't seen again until a massive brawl later in the series.
Weaknesses:
Physical-
• Beast Boy is a complete melee fighter. If his enemy is composed of/emits something that's dangerous to touch (i.e. acid or fire), he's rendered completely helpless.
• According to Cyborg, his DNA is unstable due to the continuous morphing Beast Boy does. The Beast was triggered by unknown chemicals interfering with Beast Boy's DNA, and drastically improved his feral habits even when in his human form.
• Said human form is very small and lanky with limited physical capabilities. However, Beast Boy cannot talk while in any animal form (aside from the use of telepathy or while transformed as an animal that can actually talk, like a parrot). This forces him to revert to his vulnerable human form when he needs to speak.
Mental-
• Beast Boy seems to lack a proper education, as evidenced by his ridiculous notion that the Boston Tea Party involved Britain forcing America to drink tea (and later claiming that he learned that from a cereal box). While he has necessary abilities like reading, he doesn't show a particular interest in expanding his educational horizons.
• He's EXTREMELY prone to hypnotism, on several occasions becoming a mindless, drooling lump after viewing a hypnotic screen for no more than a second.
• He tends to lack the ability to know when “enough is enough”, attempting to joke at emotionally inappropriate times for lack of a better response-even if that response would be to stay quiet.
Emotional-
• Attention. Beast Boy craves it almost constantly, once going so far as to transform into a dog to catch the eye of two women when his human form didn't impress them. He also gets incredibly jealous of those who steal his spotlight: when teaming up with Aqualad, Beast Boy shows extreme spitefulness towards him, automatically assuming that he thought he was better than Beast Boy was.
• Beast Boy is cocky, and it's something he retains throughout the series. When he scores a hit on an enemy, he has on occasion returned to his normal human form for the sole purpose of gloating. He's left vulnerable and with his guard down, most often forcing a teammate to save him from a back assault.
• Impulsiveness combined with stubbornness can make Beast Boy come across as a grade-A jerk at times. He has a hard time swallowing his pride and apologizing; even when he knows he's in the wrong, it takes time for him to cool off and suck it up enough to actually apologize. He has done this with both Starfire and Raven-the former was a mere accident, while the latter consisted of his throwing hurtful words at her because he crossed her. In both situations, Beast Boy apologized only after a prolonged period of time.

Q&A:
1. If you had to choose between obeying the person you respect and saving the person you love, which would you choose? Why?
Dude, I've been there - twice. I had to save them both times, even though I got chewed out to Tamaran and back. There's always gonna be a ton people you respect...but only a few people you really love, you know? And, er...nobody else is around, right?
2. Is it better to have loved and lost, or to have never loved at all?
I wouldn't give up my time with Terra - the REAL Terra - for anything in the world. We had some seriously rough spots, but...when it comes down to it, I'm glad she happened to me.
3. How do you think you perform in a crisis?
Dude, I'm a superhero. In case you're not familiar with the term: I kick bad guy butt, take names, and make the world a better place. 'Crisis' is my middle name.
4. If you could be reborn as someone else, who would you be? Why?
Batman! No, Superman! No - Green Lantern! His ring-thingy is way cool!
...Heh, am I allowed to just say "all of them"?
5. Describe your most beloved memory.
I think...it would be joining the Titans.
See, I'd just come to Jump City, and saw this alien girl smashing around buildings like giant piñatas. Robin was there, and I was like "Dude, that's Batman's sidekick!" And then Cyborg was there, and he was like "I'm gonna lift this bus!" And Raven was all "This is pointless," and then the alien girl turned out to be Starfire, who was all "NICE IS WEAK!" But I guess she changed her mind, because we totally trashed the dudes chasing her, and the Teen Titans were born!
Third Person:
There had to be something wrong with him, because the wings would not go back in.
He'd been animals with feathered wings. An eagle, a sparrow, a falcon, and a few dozen other birds in his Rolodex of avian critters all had wings that fit the bill. Color, texture, feather pattern, the weight - all of it seemed right, but for the life of him he just couldn't tell what species of bird the insistent pair of wings on his back had belonged to.
Maybe, he'd thought upon first discovering them, it was some bird species that he hadn't changed into for a long time that wanted to be heard really badly. Right now, even. If that could even happen he had no idea - it certainly never had before - but it was definitely more appealing than the idea that somewhere, he'd messed up, and maybe his DNA is falling apart again.
And besides the whole 'harbinger of a greater genetic collapse' thing - aesthetically? No way was he going to intimidate any bad guys with a pair of fluffy wings sticking out of his back. When pigs fly, maybe. He chuckled, the sound gargled by his birdy vocal chords.
'Heheh, when pigs fly. And I have permanent wings now! I'm so saving that one for later.' Maybe he shouldn't be as amused by that as he was, but...oh well.
But he'd been methodically changing into different kinds of birds for...long enough for him to get bored, antsy, and restless all at once. Each one was met with the same results: his regular wings, occupying the space his arms usually do, and then the stupid new ones, shrunken and settled just between them like he was some kind of...deformed fairy. Only his normal wings seemed to provide any sort of flight, and the stupid ones actually hurt if he pumped them too hard or angled too much pressure where they melted into his back. So not only were they useless, they were painful. And stupid.
Beast Boy gave a huff and arched his wings, letting the wind push him in some other direction as he mentally combed through his list of birds. He paused for a few startled flaps when the roofs of tall buildings began to rise over the treetops, quickly complemented by smaller homes. A village.

A note re: Veganism that due to probable fail on my part was left out of the original application:
While Beast Boy will insist on his aversion to dairy and poultry if put in a situation where he needs to, he has been seen eating food with them as secondary ingredients (crust on a pizza and bits of gingerbread for example) off-handedly. It can thus be assumed that Beast Boy won't fuss over offending foods he isn't entirely focused on, and has no trouble digesting it as others with similar lifestyles may.
