I don't really want to make another election post on people's friends pages...

- As of yesterday Subway in Williamsburg is offering toasted subs. They are pretty delicious. All Subways should be doing this shortly if they aren't already. Subway will also be switching back to Coke products. I know, I have a shitty job.

- I have the first part of the training to become a ropes course facilitator this weekend.

- I'm considering applying for an internship for next summer with the Student Conservation Association. Does anyone have any experience with these? From what I gather they are generally through national and state parks doing a wide range of things, from being a tour guide at historic sites to living in backcountry for months doing gps mapping or trail maintainence or other things. I'm more interested in the camping stuff. Apparently all their positions offer housing and a food allowance, and I think they have a travel allotment.
However, the only reason I'm thinking about this is that some girl came and talked to one of my classes about it and then I looked at their website.

As for the election:

I'm pretty disappointed by Bush winning, but I don't think it's the end of the world. What does bother me is this:

The huge mass of red is so fucking depressing, even more than the large western one because of the difference in population.

I also dislike the winner-take-all aspect of the electoral college system, I think a system based on the distribution of the popular vote makes a lot more sense and I can't for the life of me understand why Colorado would choose to not change their system.

On the subject of ballot initiatives, I'm sad and angry about the 11 states banning gay marriage, particularly in those states whose measures also ruled out civil unions. I can't understand how so many people, 70%+ a lot of those states, could be opposed to something that really doesn't affect them at all.

Although I wish Kerry had won, I am glad that the race wasn't a mess like it was 4 years ago. I'm not buying into this whole leaving the country thing...yet. I don't really believe that Dubya is going to kick down my door and arrest me for being a terrorist/a homo, or draft me and send me to die in an invasion of France. However, Mich pointed out that Jeb Bush could be a republican candidate for president in 2008 and I think that might be enough to make me flee.

I'm also sort of surprised by the widespread douchebaggery on the part of the American public. I'd always considered myself pretty moderate, not all that liberal, because I based my opinions on what seemed reasonable. However, as Eric has pointed out to me, compared to the majority of Americans I'm a flaming liberal.

*Sigh* we'll survive, but I feel like we could see some pretty awful setbacks to Gay and Abortion rights, not to mention alienating most of the rest of the planet.
