Chapter 7

“Achoo! Uhg…I feel miserable!” Hikaru whined from his spot on his bed, his voice muffled from being under a mountain covers.

“Well, that’s what you get for running onto the roof while it was raining that hard,” responded Keito as he fought with Hikaru to pull the mountain of blankets back and place a rubber hot water bottle on the sick boy’s forehead; which proved to be rather difficult because Hikaru wouldn’t let him and tugged back. “Hikaru…please?” Keito tried to be gentile as he tugged a bit harder, “It’s just the water bottle…it’s not like I’m giving you cough medicine.”

“I don’t want it…” the older boy mumbled.

Keito sighed, “Please? I just want you to get better. Do it for me? Please?” Perhaps guilt tripping him into lowering the covers might work. Keito smiled hopefully as he saw the blankets sliding down ever so slowly, until they reached just below Hikaru’s eyes. The weak boy peered back at him, unconvinced.

Just as he was about to give a witty remark with his pathetically hoarse voice Keito took his chance and slapped the slightly less warm water bottle on Hikaru’s forehead. “Hey!” He exclaimed in surprise and tried to wriggle out of Keito’s grasp.

“There,” the younger boy cooed, “it’s not so bad now is it?”

Hikaru continued to struggle until he was able to slide out from under Keito’s hands and the water bottle. “Yes it is!” he said as he pulled the blankets back over his head, “it’s terrible!”

The younger member rolled his eyes as he placed the rubber bottle on his knee and crosses his arms, “What’s so terrible about it?” He heard Hikaru mumble something he couldn’t understand. “What? Speak up, I can’t understand you.”

A loud sigh and then, “I don’t know…I just don’t like it! Keep it away from me!”

Just as Keito decided to try for the umpteenth time to get Hikaru to put the water bottle on his head, Hikaru’s mother walked into the room.

“Oh dear, you won’t get that thing even close to him I’m afraid,” she said as she held a tray of soup for her sick son, “I don’t know why though…he’s been like that since he was little.”

“Yeah,” Keito sighed, “I figured that out the hard way. I almost-“ Keito was cut off by a string of coughs that racked his own body.

Hikaru’s mother set the tray down and waited for Him to stop then placed her hand on his forehead, “Oh my! You’re burning up!”

“I’m fine, really…” He tried to convince her half heartedly, not able to convince himself.

Clicking her tongue in an annoyed manner she then strutted over to Hikaru’s dresser and pulled out an old t-shirt and pair of sweat pants, “I won’t listen to any of that nonsense! Here,” she handed Keito the clothes and walked to the door, “put those on, their warmer than what you’re wearing. Then crawl in next to Hikaru…I’ll bring you some soup too.”

Keito looked down at the clothes in his hands with a surprised expression, then over to the bed where Hikaru’s eyes where peeking out from under the covers, “Well, then…” Keito didn’t hesitate as he reached for his belt buckle and dropped his pants revealing his blue plaid boxers; only to quickly slip into the grey sweat pants soon after.

Hikaru couldn’t help but gaze wide eyed from his hidden spot on the bed as Keito then fingered the edge of his shirt before pulling it over his head. The hidden boy felt a noise climbing up his throat as he watched the display and clamped his hand over his mouth before it could get out.

Since when did Keito have a body like that?! The younger boy wasn’t just thin, he was also lean with muscles covering the whole of his upper body. A body that rivaled his own, Hikaru mused. He almost sighed as Keito pulled the old green shirt over his head and patted his hair down. Keito’s gaze flitted back to the bed as he approached and pulled back the corner of the blanket, “Mind if I join?”

Hikaru didn’t say anything as Keito watched the massive lump in the middle of the bed shift over slightly nearer to the wall. Stifling his giggle at how childish Hikaru was being at the moment Keito lowered himself onto the bed and under the covers. “Hikaru…where did you go?” he asked, playing along with the older boy’s petty game.

Hikaru didn’t respond so Keito ducked his head under the covers and reached out to find him. It was so dark he couldn’t see anything as his hand hit something soft and warm. Shifting his hand a bit he felt something akin to a nose, “Hikaru?” Shifting once more, Keito slid his hand a bit further down and felt something softer.

“What?” The softness underneath his fingers moved as Hikaru spoke. Keito didn’t reply as he waited for his eyes to adjust to darkness. When they had, he could make out Hikaru’s form under the warm blanket, but more importantly his face; where Keito’s fingers rested on Hikaru’s lips.

The younger boy couldn’t respond as he gazed intently at Hikaru, and before he’d realized what he was doing Keito found him self running his thumb slowly over Hikaru’s bottom lip. How long had he waited to feel this? How long had he waited to just be with Hikaru like this? The months suddenly felt like nothing as he felt the smooth skin under his fingertips.

The entranced boy gave a small jolt as he felt the other slide his arms around his middle and pull him closer. When Keito was so close that he could feel Hikaru’s breath wash over his face he pulled his hand away to grip the older boy’s shirt lightly. Hikaru’s eye’s never left Keito’s as he grasped the hand that had just been on his face and raised it back, resting it on his cheek. Still holding Keito’s hand he leaned forward and gave the smaller boy a light kiss on the lips.

Just as Keito was about to respond to the kiss Hikaru pulled back and yanked his body even closer, holding the younger boy close as if he would disappear if Hikaru didn’t hold tight enough. “Don’t go anywhere,” he said.

Keito felt the rumble of his voice against his chest and whispered back, “I’m not going anywhere, I promise.”
