http://youtu.be/RRlgikU0_LU "So, was it him?" Yoochun asks me as I tell him my almost-close-but-not encounter with Yunho. Good thing the cafe isn't busy right now - excuse me, my cafe (and accompanied bookstore).
"It wasn't him after all. I got a better look at the guy who I thought was him. Turns out he had a big honker for a nose and had those black thick-framed glasses that totally didn't work for him." I know those frames use to be considered only for dorks back in the day. But now they seem to be the look, and I have to say some do look pretty good in them, while others, well, just look dorky.
Out of nowhere the mentioned retro frames appears on top Yoochun's face. "When did you get those?"
"What do you think?" he asks, adjusting the frames. "I got them yesterday."
"They look pretty good on you." I stick a finger right through the frames, and laughed. "But what happened the frames?"
"Hey, watch it. My eye." He whacks my hand away. "It's just for look."
"Can I try it?"
"Sure."
I take the glasses and put them on. They're a bit tight on me, or Yoochun just has a small head. "So, how do I look?"
"Like the snobby college kid I first meet," he says with his insulting laugh.
"Hey!" I punched him jokingly on the shoulder, and he fake cries while rubbing that spot. "I was not a snob." I was a bit reserved and didn't talk to a lot of people - you could even say I was shy but not a snob.
I take the frames off and toss it back to Yoochun. Unfortunately, my attempt to make him miss catching it fails.
Playfully, he blows on the frames and wipes off the invisible fingerprints on the non-existent lens with his shirt, then puts the glasses back on. "Why were you hiding anyway? When you thought it was him."
"Why was I hiding…?” I trailed off on my own.
Why was I hiding anyway? I have nothing to hide. It's not like I did anything shameful. Lots of people have one night stands. Plus, he was the one who approached me first, and even thought that I did that kind of thing for a living. If someone should be ashamed it should be him. He's a pervert. That's right - a pervert.
"Because... what was I going to say again?" Just at the right time the bell chimes at the door which means a customer - or the usual buy-a-coffee-and-pick-a-book-to-read-and-not-leave-the-whole-day-but-not-buy-the-book, I hate those, customer - has walked in the shop.
"Hel - lo?" It's Jaejoong. He's here for his piano lesson. "Is there something on my face?" he asks.
For some odd reason, Yoochun and I are staring at him. Well, he did came in just when I was in the middle of explaining about me hiding from Yunho, but I'm glad he did.
"No, there's something in your hair," I said, but there wasn't.
"Really?" Jaejoong is touching his hair now. "I walked by a row of trees earlier."
"You got bird poop on the back of your hair," I tell him, trying very hard not to laugh while he starts freaking out looking in the mirror on the wall.
This shop use to be owned by my grandparents, but after they went back to retire in their hometown two years ago they left it to me. This originally was a book store, and I myself am I writer so it makes since. I knew a bookstore wasn't going to make much money so I made the back half the place into a coffee shop. Business still isn't great but it's something.
There's a second floor and that's where I live with Yoochun. It's also where he works. Yoochun's a composer and he teaches piano on the side.
I met Yoochun in college. He's 2 years my senior. We only ever had one class together, English - he was really good too. If I hadn't lost my pen one day in the library we may had never spoken - nor became friends. After I found out he came back from schooling in America he also became my English tutor - and later my roommate, but that's another story.
"I can't see it. Where's the bird poop?" Jaejoong still fussy with his hair.
Yoochun chuckles as he walks out from the counter area. "Jaejoong, Changmin's just kidding with you."
"Yah!" Jaejoong points a finger at me. Then he notices Yoochun. "I didn't know you wear glasses. They look cute on you."
Yoochun grins. "You think so?" Then he adjusts the frames on the side with his finger for no reason.
I roll my eyes.
So, they both have their little piano lesson upstairs, leaving me all alone in the shop. It's so boring. I tried to fiddle with the espresso machine I got last week, but I still can't figure it out. The instructions are in damn Italian.
I’m also hearing more laughing than I do piano playing from down here. So loud. Sometimes, I wonder what they're really doing up there. I'm guessing they're just cracking jokes and stuff. What else? But I have to say I do get a weird vibe from Jaejoong.
"Umm, excuse me, is anyone here?" someone calls at the front of the shop.
I think I've heard that voice somewhere before. I look between the bookshelves and I can't believe it. Without thinking, I duck down behind the counter. It's him. Yunho. Wait, I was wrong the last time, so I pop my head up to look again and squat back down.
I catch my breath. It is him. How can forget those eyes, lips, that mole, and that body - the sweat, the sensitive skin, his neck, his chest, his stomach, his hips, thighs, his legs, his arms, his hands, his touch... mmm... and his voice. Stop! I think I just had a flashback of that night, again. Ever since then, occasionally, I've had some explicit dreams of him, and damn was he dirrrty. What's wrong with me? This is dangerous. Is it getting hot in here?
"Excuse me, I'm looking for a book." It’s his voice again.
I can't face him now. Shit, what am I suppose to do? I search around, for what I'm not sure, then I see a mouth mask tucked under the counter. Where did this came from? Oh yeah, I was cleaning the other day. Anyway, I pull it out and put it on.
I hope he doesn't recognize me. "Welcome," I say as he walks toward me.
"Are you okay?" he asks.
I didn't expect that. He must mean the mask. "Yes, I'm fine. I just have a small cold. Not contagious though. So...umm, you're looking for a book right? What's it called?"
"Sangnoksu by Shim Hun."
I instantly knew we didn't have that book. But it doesn't meaning I don't know it. "I heard of that book. It's quite rare, though." This knowledge via my college days as a literature major.
"You know you're the first person I've asked that actually said you've of heard it." He seems impressed with me. "I'm really looking for this book for my grandfather. It seems to be something special to him and it's his 75th birthday next month so I wanted to find the book to surprise him."
I know I'm staring right now. But I can't believe it. Is this really the same dirty-hot-sexy-sleazeball - cross out the middle part - I spent the night with 3 years ago. If so, why is he so nice, considerate, caring, thoughtful - and sweet. This must be the wrong person.
He's smiling at me. I think I'm gonna melt. "Would you like me to help look for the book?"
He was wide-eyed and happy to hear me say that. "You can do that?"
"I've got connections." I don't have any connections. I barely have friends. What am I saying?
"Here." He gives me a card - business card? "It has my number and email. If you find anything you can reach me."
My eyes roam all over the card and it just caught me. "You're a dance instructor?"
"Yea, actually I teach at a studio just a couple blocks from here," he tells me. Why does he have to tell me that?
Sighs. No wonder you're good in bed. You've got the moves from being a dancer. Wait a second. Did I just... Oh my gawd!
"Are you you sure you're okay?" he asks.
"Yes." No. I think I'm losing oxygen from this smelly mask. I have to throw this away later.
"Alright, then..."
Just he looks like he's about to leave Yoochun walks in. "Hey Changmin, are you feeling okay?"
Oh geez. He just said my name. Please, don't come any closer Yoochun. But he just doesn't seem to understand my eye motions and head shaking. Stupid-idiot. Before I know it Yoochun is up in my face feeling my forehead right in front of Yunho.
"Please, not now," I whisper to Yoochun.
"Huh?" He doesn't hear me.
"Go away." I tried, still in a whisper.
I think he hears me. He raises an eyebrow at me. Damn, mistake. And Yoochun yanks the mouth mask right off my face. I'm so dead.
He can see me. Yunho. I use my hands to cover my face, though I think it's too late. He has his mouth open and eyes wide, possibly in disbelief, then he eases into a smile and a "Hi".
"Nice seeing you," he says with a wave - a wink too, huh?
And just like that he walks out of my shop.
"What just happened here?" Yoochun asks, which is what I want to know too.
"I don't know." I really don't. I turn to Yoochun. "Did he just winked at me?"
He shrugs. "Maybe he had something in his eye. Or he had a twitch."
"No." I turn around and I see leaning on the wall by the stairs was Jaejoong. "It was a wink," he confirms.
That's what I'm afraid of.
Afterword: Thank you all for your feedback. The response was really unexpected. I was about to give up if no one liked it. Sorry, I'm just one of those unconfident writers that need to be pushed to write. So if you still like the story so far please comment. ^____^
P.S. I also was inspired to make a video with this story in mind. If you're curious check it out here:
