Title call by Saitou: Hakuouki drama CD, Panacea ☆ Ishida Powdered Medicine.

Saitou: Not enough! Sano! Even if this is practicing, or should I say it's because this is practicing, it'll be meaningless if you're not doing your best.

Harada: Alright, don't blame me if you get hurt, Saitou!

Saitou: Show me if you can!

(Something crashing)

Harada: Whoa! What the... The ceiling collapsed?

Harada: Hey! Are you alright, Saitou? Sai~tou~? Darnit. He's totally buried underneath.

(Removing the debris)

Harada: Saitou, are you alright?

Saitou: *gasp* Sorry to trouble you. I'm fine. Let's continue practicing.

Harada: No, no. This isn't the time for practicing. You were directly hit by those heavy panels! Any broken bone or something?

Saitou: No. No problem.

Harada: C'mon, let me check... This looks serious!

Saitou: No. No big deal.

Harada: How could this be no big deal! Although no bone seems be broken, that must be hurting a lot. You're just holding back, and that's not helping. Hmm... Looks like you won't be able to grab a sword for a few days.

Saitou: No. Not at a time like this.

Harada: Even if you say so, when you can't, you just can't.

Saitou: No. I need to have the wound cured right away.

Harada: If it's a bruise, fine. But this is not something that can be cured with will power.

Saitou: No. For this kind of situation, there's always "that".

Harada: "That"? What's "that"?

(Footsteps)

Harada: Hey Saitou. What's "that" anyway? This... Isn't this Hijikata-san's room?

Saitou: Hijikata-san!

Hijikata: What's with the shouting? It's like someone got seriously injured. Sai...Saitou! You are seriously injured!

Saitou: Hijikata-san, please give me that, Ishida Powdered Medicine.

Hijikata: Huh? Oh, that.

Saitou: Yes. With that, a wound like this would be cured in no time. It's no ordinary medicine.

Hijikata: Ah. Yes indeed.

Harada: No... now, Saitou. We get decent salary from Shinsengumi. And unlike me, you don't spend every bit of it on Japanese sake right away. Don't rely on folk medicine like this. You have savings to afford a good doctor in Kyoto.

Saitou: No. Ishida Powdered Medicine is enough. This is the number 1 medicine in Japan. Right, Hijikata-san?

Hijikata: Huh? Oh of course! Just a moment... Here, Saitou, would these do?

Saitou: My deepest gratitude.

Hijikata: For more serious ones like this, the most important thing is the will that believes in its effect. After taking it, don't move your arm at all for today. I think that'll be enough.

Saitou: My deepest gratitude. This way I'll be able to wield a sword tomorrow. Then, excuse me.

(Saitou leaves)

Harada: (lowered voice) Hey, Hijikata-san, what are you going to do with him?

Hijikata: What do you mean what am I going to do?

Harada: He believed in that quack medicine!

Hijikata: How rude to call it a quack medicine! Ishida Powered Medicine is not a quack medicine. It's just that... doesn't make much difference whether you take it or not.

Harada: That's the definition of quack medicine! That Saitou, he completely believed it! To wield a sword tomorrow? Like hell that's gonna happen! That medicine isn't helping! I can't believe you even told him the "correct" way to take it!

Hijikata: Do you think he will listen even if I refuse to give it to him? If he thinks that's going to work, then it will.

Harada: Oh boy. Count me out.

(The next day)

Harada: Alright, since Saitou won't be able to move today, I'll take his shift in the training. Listen up, y'all...

Saitou: Lower your body a bit more, and swing the sword at full strength!

Harada: Wha... Hey! Saitou!

Saitou: Oh, Harada-kun. What is it?

Harada: Saitou? Saitou... kun? Isn't it a little too much to wield a sword with that arm?

Saitou: What do you mean by "that arm"?

Harada: That arm of yours! See how much it had swollen?

Saitou: No problem.

Harada: Big problem! Here!

(Tap)

Saitou: Whoa!

Harada: See? Just a tap and it hurts that much! Now behave and go see a doctor!

Saitou: *moan* Harada-kun sure has great physical strength. Just a tap and it hurts that much.

Harada: You're missing the point, Mister Saitou.

Saitou: While we're at it, Harada-kun, I'm completely cured. If, I'm just saying "if"...

Harada: Well?

Saitou: If, by any chance, the medicine I got from Vice Commander is not effective, can you say that out loud? As a Shinsengumi executive, are you going to say "Vice Commander's medicine is not working" in front of all these men?

Harada: Err... you have a point.

Saitou: That's that. If this is all you want to say, I need to go back to training.

Harada: Err... uh-huh...

(In Hijikata's room)

Harada: Hey! Hijikata-san!

Hijikata: What is it, Harada? You're shouting like someone got seriously injured.

Harada: Someone did! Seriously! Saitou believed in that quack medicine, thought he's cured, and now he's wielding a sword already! He's even training our men!

Hijikata: I see.

Harada: Don't give me that "I see"! Stop him, and explain already! Tell him that medicine is not curing anything, and he needs to have a doctor examine it!

Hijikata: How could I say that now? I already said it's effective.

Harada: Now is not the time for this! Saitou really believes it, and is swinging the sword with that swollen arm!

Hijikata: Oh well. If Saitou believes so, it will be cured anyway. Thanks to his believe in Ishida Powered Medicine, he should alright pretty soon.

Harada: Hey, hey...

(Footsteps)

Saitou: Hijikata-san! Hijikata-san, please give me medicine!

Hijikata: What is it, Saitou? You're shouting like someone got seriously injured.

Harada: Yeah, he is. I've been trying to tell you that.

Saitou: There was an accident in training.

Hijikata: How careless.

Saitou: His arm was cut off by sword. Please give me Ishida Powdered Medicine.

Hijikata: Huh? Cut off? Like, completely?

Saitou: Yes. But with Ishida Powdered Medicine, it'll be cured in no time. Right? Hijikata-san?

Hijikata: Hmm? Ahh... Cut off... that's a little...

Saitou: My arm was cured overnight. So that's definitely going to work. Please hurry, Hijikata-san.

(Lowered voice)

Hijikata: Harada, say something!

Harada: Don't ask me! You reap what you sow.

Hijikata: How could you be so cold? Don't say that. Help me out! Please?

Harada: I've been trying to talk you out of it before it turned out this way! Now take the responsibility yourself!

Saitou: Hijikata-san, please give me Ishida Powdered Medicine!

Hijikata: Gi... Give me a break!
Personal comments: 1) LOL @ Hijikata not able to tell Saitou the truth! It's very rare to see him panicking.
2) Harada is such a nice big brother type. Seeing him arguing with Hijikata is so much fun. XD

Ishida Powdered Medicine
The medicine given in episode #3. Heisuke said it tasted nasty and Hijikata-san wasn't too pleased. XD
It's taken with warmed Japanese sake, one dose (3.75g) per day. Good for bruises, sprains, muscle pain, and cuts.
Legend has it that the formula and manufacturing method was taught by a Shinto god kappa.

It was still made even after WWII. But with the revision of Pharmaceutical Affairs Act in1948, Hijikata family had to reapply for a license to manufacture and sale it. They were turned down because "there hasn't been an objective scientific research on its effectiveness and ingredients". Actually, the policy of the Ministry of Welfare was to reject all medicine with charring in its production process, so Ishida Powered Medicine was not alone.
Even so, there were elders who say "Ishida Powdered Medicine is a must." In 1963, a men went to Hijikata's house asking for it, since it can no longer be found anywhere else. Looks like it was loved even in more modern times.

The last batch was kept in the Hijikata Toshizou Museum, along with its label, its old license, and the medicine cabinet Hijikata Toshizou actually carried when he was a traveling medicine seller.
