In the new issue of Spin, they had a special listing their choices for the top 100 albums since 1985 (the year of Spin's inception). I've provided the whole thing below, with the bolded releases being the ones I own.

Seriously, that list is completely laughable...The lack of Tool is embarrassing, and the fact that neither Evil Empire, or Rage Against the Machine made the list is even moreso...Fuck, why not just put Renegades on there?

And how is the Neutral Milk album so goddamn low?

Debating with another white kid about the merits of hip-hop is like winning a gold medal in the Special Olympics -- no matter what, you're still retarded.

So, you would also agree that white kids can't no shit about jazz and that anyone other than white kids can't get indie rock? Or hell, let's just say that white kids can't get the rock either anyway, because blacks thought it up. Granted, that special olympics joke is always funny, but I gotta agree with loscarringtons, whoever he is.

Dude, even dumber than what you've said before. Pyani has it right. Music is for people. There aren't any race barriers. What I've been saying isn't an elitist point of view - it's the common popular opinion expressed by all sides of the musical press. Source and Vibe would list most of the same albums in their most influential/msot famous/absolute favorite lists/whatever lists.

Don't hate - I'm trying to educate. You don't have to be ignorant about hip-hop anymore! Spin has done you the graces of pointing out some of the best releases ever.
