I actually haven't read either book, though I've been hearing more and more about The Omnivore's Dilemma .... just recently, too. rmmcgrath (on my Friend's List) just made his own post about it last week.
This will be an interesting journey. Thanks for allowing us/me to come along!
The scene in Avatar where the male lead kills the beast for food was actually pretty touching for me. (If you and M haven't seen it, you really should. There's a reason why it's made all that money, and I don't think it's all because of the ground-breaking effects.) Whenever I cut a leaf off our aloe plant to apply to for-whatever-reason damaged skin, I thank the plant for its leaf and its healing powers. Whether the plant knows anything about my thanks is a separate debate, but I do it out of respect for nature and God.

LOL! Could be interesting. Could be really disgusting. If it gets too much for you, we can always go back to arguing politics and the tax burden. XD
