When Kurenai first woke up today she had instantly remembered what day it was. Instinctively reaching for the pillow that still smelled of her love, she hugged it close while one hand rested carefully on her stomach, caressing the baby they had made together. It took every ounce of strength to convince Kurenai to get out of bed and go about her day, and nothing could erase the obvious discomfort that marred her face.

Today would not be an easy day for her but she knew that there were others who would be dependent upon her strength. There almost always were people watching to she if she would break down, but only a few people knew that Kurenai had long ago learned how to keep her emotions in check in public. It was a little tougher now since her pregnancy made her hyper-emotional, but she refused to cry in front of Shikamaru and Ino.

After digging out her best black dress, Kurenai was thankful it still fit her. Asuma always loved how it molded to her curves and there would always be a part of her that wanted to look good for him. A quick dash of make-up and making sure her hair was alright was all it took for her to be ready, but the somersaults in her stomach gave her the feeling that the baby could sense her lingering depression.

After eating something light and taking a quick trip to the convenience store, Kurenai sent both Ino and Shikamaru text messages explaining she'd meet them at the cemetary since she wanted to arrive early. The cab she arranged was waiting.

Upon arriving, she put out the flowers - simple wildflowers like the ones he had given her on their first date - as well as a picture of the two of them the night they first met, and a pack of his usual brand of cigarettes before looking around to make sure she was still alone.

"Asuma, it hasn't even been that long since you were murdered, and I grow to miss you more and more each day. Our baby is getting big, and I keep looking for name inspiration everywhere. I'm doing my best to be strong for both our friends and your students, but it can be so tough...I just, well I miss you, and I'll always love you. I know you'll live on in our child, but I wish you were still here. If I ever find out who killed you...I'm not going to go there. Ino and Shikamaru should be here soon, and I know that will make you happy."
