Tremor!

Arrived home today and sat down to catch up on personal email, with colleagues in the UK through our in house IM system, and perhaps browse LJ.  Rudely interrupted by this little tremor, shaking the room around and wobbling the television on its stand.  That said, it seems amazing to me how relatively immune I have become to tremors - scarcely had ( Read more... )

ooooh, i tend to forget that japan is in a seismic zone. do you experience a lot of tremors? what has unzen been doing lately?

We are indeed in a very seismic zone. However, due to good building design, tremors of less than about 4.5 (on the Richter scale) tend to go unnoticed, and only really those of 5 or greater give me cause to comment.

Nonetheless, the following site gives some indication of how many measurable tremors we have had so far this month...

Unzen seems to have been quiet recently - but it is a long way from Tokyo, so I might not be aware of what is really happening there. I do have to go to Nagasaki for work in the near future - so may learn more then!
