Okay, I'm in the middle of writing things (OMG I AM SO SORRY fanartist should you be reading this, I will be e-mailing you shortly) and looking for work and blahblahblah, but I STILL have more free time than I did before, so I'd like to get some reading done. And since I've been watching Guin Saga, I'm really, really craving some epic, sprawling fantasy now ( Read more... )

Martha Wells is not specifically epic fantasy, but she does write some really interesting fantasy (of a few different kinds), so if the library has her, I recommend giving her a try (she also has a book with a setting inspired by the Angkor Wat, where the main protaganist is an older, dark-skinned, formerly married priestress, so that is pretty awesome XD That one is called The Wheel of the Infinite ( ... )

Well, yay, the library has both Martha Wells and Megan Whalen Turner! They also have Jim Butcher, but he seems really popular (most of his books are checked out, ATM).

Yeah, I knew Michelle West also uses the name Michelle Sagara, but the library really doesn't have anything at all by her. D:

I haven't actually read Robin Hobb. It looks like only our library's North Branch has the assassin trilogy and . . . two of them have been stolen??? -__-; My library branch seems to have the fool trilogy, but it's checked out, ATM.

Yeah, no, I really haven't read that much, so thanks, I appreciate it! ^__^

Whoo! And yeah, Jim Butcher's considered a bestseller, I think, so he probably would be. XD

Ah, too bad on the Michelle West. She doesn't seem to be very well known (though with the recent series/reprints, I was assuming she was getting more popular), so I guess that might explain it. D:

Oh, bugger on the Robin Hobb. XD I forgot to mention the Fool series is a sequel to the Assassin one, and given that the assassin one is... not available? I guess no luck. :(

It occurred to me in hindsight that most of my recs weren't actually for epic fantasy... WHOOPS? XD I don't read a lot of it either.

(You could also try The Lies of Locke Lamora/Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch. The series kind of drives me crazy, but it's pretty fun XD And from a search, it looks like your library does have it!)

I think I actually knew about Michelle West/Sagara because you've written about her before in your LJ. LOL. (I pay attention, really!)

(And, aw, that sucks. I don't think my library has that limitation, but who knows? Like all libraries, I think they periodically weed out their older books anyway.)

A is for Asprin, Robert. The Myth series is probably not epic, but it -is- funny. My favorite moment is the Dragon Poker game against the Sen-sen Ante Kid ( ... )

Thank you, Mike. ^___^ I've read McCaffrey though her stuff is actually sci-fi. And, alas, I can only watch Jin Yong series since I'm still Chinese illiterate. D:

I want to send something to you as well but I don't know if you want mail sent to your new residence or not...let me know~!

I think your entry looks totally awesome! <3

Yeah, I got the owl in China. It fits so well with your new room!

Since the people I'm staying with have to pick up the mail, prolly not. You can send it to my parents' place in Utah? I won't get it until Thanksgiving, but I'll definitely get it? (Yeah, sorry, my mom had to mail out your pressie because my parents accidentally packed it and shipped it to their house when I specifically told them not to pack certain things. *rolls eyes*) I'll call you sometime! Maybe Sunday?
