When Tatsuya comes home, Fumie is on the phone.

"Excuse me?" she asks, frowning like she can't either understand or believe what she's hearing through the lines, "Are you really sure?" Tatsuya looks at her for a moment but she doesn't seem to be finished yet so he walks into the living room.

"Hello, little man," he says with a smile and crouches in front of Ren who sits in the middle of the living room carpet, happily munching something that looks like a dry piece of bread found under the sofa. "Daddy came home early today, right?"

"Daddy home, welcome," Ren giggles and offers his snack to him.

"We better throw this away before mama sees this," Tatsuya chuckles and lifts his son on his arms. "You can throw it away by yourself!"

"Bye-bye bread," Ren wishes and lets go of the bread above the garbage bin that Tatsuya keeps open with his foot. At the same time Fumie walks into the kitchen, sighing deeply as she puts away the phone and Tatsuya raises his eyebrows.

"What's wrong?"

"It's Haru," Fumie starts and sends him a suffering look, "Tatsuya, it's your daughter's second day at school ever, and she has already been called into the headmaster's office for getting into a fight."

For a fleeting moment the whole kitchen is deadly silent until Tatsuya bursts out into a roaring laughter. (Ren looks at him in confusion but clearly likes the sound, and starts to laugh too.)

"Oh my, true daddy's girl! Did she win?"

"Tatsuya!" Fumie snaps, "You seriously are not encouraging her to fight are you?"

"Well of course we need to find out why she did it," Tatsuya admits although he's still smiling widely, "but, you see, I trust her. I'm sure she had a good reason."

"We'll go to get her from school together," Fumie says in a tone that doesn't allow any objections, "And I expect you to wipe that stupid grin off your face before we arrive there."

The headmaster looks serious but not angry when they arrive at the school.

"I'm very sorry for the inconvenience," Fumie says and bows. Tatsuya nods as well and so does Ren on his arms. He's not looking at the headmaster though but the little girl who sits on the wooden bench next to the wall, staring at her socks with a defiant pout on her tiny face.

"I'm sorry to call you here so suddenly. The boy she hit wasn't hurt and his mother only wished we'd make sure to talk about it with you, Sakuragi-san, so everything is all right on their side," the headmaster says and glances at Haru.

"However, I honestly believe we'll get much better results if the children themselves sorted this out - with our help of course. The problem is, she refuses to do so. She admitted she is guilty but that's all. We only wish she would have apologized to the boy."

"Haru?" Fumie says in a slightly scolding voice, "is what she says true?" The little girl only nods and looks even more stubborn, but Tatsuya can see the wetness that's slowly gathering into the corners of her eyes.

"May I?" he asks, gives Ren to Fumie, and kneels in front of Haru, staring at her until she finally looks into his eyes.

"Did you really fight with someone?" Tatsuya asks and Haru gives him a reluctant nod.

"Did you do something that you should apologize for?" he continues and Haru nods again.

"Well, you know, there aren't many choices then," Tatsuya says with a sad smile but Haru furiously shakes her head and the angry tears fall down on her cheeks.

"But dad, it's so unfair!" she sobs, "Why do only I have to apologize when Kenji-kun did something bad too?"

Tatsuya glances at the headmaster who looks sincerely surprised. Fumie, instead, looks like she's starting to understand.

"Could you tell me what he did?" Tatsuya asks and brushes the tears away from Haru's cheeks. Haru shifts on her place for a moment before looking down again and starting to slowly talk.

"He teased Yuya-kun! He said he is tiny like a mouse, and Yuya-kun started to cry. But it's not true! I know he's short because he's a twin! The Sandman always has to divide the sleep-growing-sand for the both Yuki and Yuya at night and that's why they're shorter than the others. I told Kenji so but he just laughed and wouldn't stop it, and then I got really angry and I punched him."

"So that's how it is," Tatsuya said with a sigh and smiled a little. "Thank you for telling me, Haru. It was really brave of you to defend your friend but you know, you can't hit people just like that. Now, what if I call Kenji's parents when we get home and tell them what happened. Then you can apologize Kenji-kun, and he can apologize Yuya-kun tomorrow."

Haru nods again and for the finally there is a shy little smile pulling the corners of her mouth.

"Of course I'll apologize him if he apologizes Yuya-kun," she promises and jumps down to hug Tatsuya. "Thank you dad!"

They walk back to the car in a comfortable silence.

"I told you there is a reason," Tatsuya reminds to Fumie who shakes her head and fastens Ren's safety belt while Tatsuya helps Haru to fasten her own safety belt on the other side of the car.

"We'll talk about this later Sakuragi Tatsuya," Fumie warns but she can't help smiling anyway.
