they all fuss over a minor cut, but seohyun has bigger problems.

It's not like they spend a lot of time together outside of the show. They have their own individual schedules, after all, and the only time they ever talk on the phone is when they absolutely need to or if there is a particularly interesting article that concerns them. Yonghwa, especially, has made it his responsibility to report anything entertaining he finds in the papers to his make-believe wife, and she always listens to him and comments in that neutrally amused tone of hers that's difficult to read.

But the funny thing none of them discovers is how easily they fall into this pattern, even though it's no secret that there is often tension between them. For Yonghwa, the only thing he desires is for Seohyun to feel comfortable; this is his goal, and it will continue to be his goal until she develops an easiness with him that she promised over their Italian dinner. For Seohyun, the tension is a result of Yonghwa being the first boy that seems responsive in a way that isn't at all idolizing. It's new, different, so of course she's uncomfortable. She doesn't know how to play the role of an ideal woman; the only things she knows are books, health, and compassion.

Today, Seohyun reprimands herself for being careless. Deeply concentrated on cutting the vegetables - everything has to be perfect for her brothers-in-law, after all - she misses, the knife catching the tip of her finger. She yelps and, all of a sudden, everyone is quick to come to her aid with Yonghwa somehow materializing beside her in what feels like no time at all. While she's smiling nervously, anxious that she's made herself the center of unnecessary attention, she's unaware of the genuine concern that manifests on Yonghwa's face.

It's okay, she insists. It doesn't hurt at all.

To Yonghwa, she is admirable to put up with the pain, even though it bleeds slightly as he checks on the wound. It's probably less painful than it looks, and he trusts her seemingly high pain tolerance, but as her make-believe husband and friend, it is necessary to take care of the problem. He re-wraps her finger with the tissue and applies pressure to stop the bleeding.

Are you all right? Does it hurt? he asks.

No, it doesn't.

And while Minhyuk and Jungshin take over the cooking responsibilities, Seohyun is concentrating on her finger and the way Yonghwa is casually touching her, concern etched into his features. Of course there isn't anything behind it, but there's a slight surge of electricity that shoots up her arm, and she's not sure if it's the pain or ...

Instead, she says, Thank you.

And the soft manner in which he replies, one that is almost sure to escape most of the viewers' attention, affects her. It's the kind of way in which he isn't at all aware that the cameras are still rolling. There is a warmth there that's so natural, she almost misses it. For the brief second the camera is panned away from them, she briefly glances at his profile and the way his eyes are solely concentrated on her hand.

Of one thing Seohyun is certain: she is glad Jung Yonghwa is her husband, and while she struggles to describe what this means, she wonders if she could think of it any other way.
