Our world dwindled; colour leached away, not to softly twilit mists, but to savage harshness. Black sky above stark white, laced by lurid blue shadows hiding ravening maws, eager to swallow the unwary whole, and the constant noise....

Jaws of Ice they called you, unrelenting, unremitting… clashing bergs grinding icy teeth, flurrying snow that stung eyes, bit lips, harried flesh… so many fell exhausted, faces white with frozen rime. One I saw, so young… pulled from another’s dead arms… His parents took the scarlet cloak from the corpse to wrap him, before dragging him away…

...He wears red even today.
