New Madrigal Question!

What is the point of the Warlock header from the power-gamer viewpoint?

It seems like if you're going to be in melee you'll want melee defenses, but the headers that have those seem to provide damage and status effects similar to what you're already getting from Warlock.

I've got specs for a Warlock secondary that I really like. For the most bang for your buck, a Warlock with Primal is the best way to go, though it makes me sad that the Evocation spells get their output cut in half when a Warlock delivers them via weapon.

But I think being a polearm-wielding Warlock would be a great deal of fun. I don't know how prevelant the header is in the game, but I know I personally don't see at lot.

I recognize that this didn't actually answer your question, but I'm not very helpful for discussions of the power-game POV.

I appreciate it all the same :P

I've had a character concept since before I found out about LARPing that syncs up pretty well with Warlocks. I think it'll work best in Aralis, but I realized that I never re-examined it after the Madrigal rules change. Looking at it this morning I'm just not sure what other headers work well with Warlock.

What do you have in mind for this Warlock secondary of yours?

I'd like to be a polearm Warlock from Rhoemurg. And even though I said Primal is the best way to go for Warlock, I think I'd go Gloaming for the spell-strike spells, so my PC would be keen to fight undead. Agony and Repel would be two great things to spell-strike, a bit of damage from Vengeful Engeries (which is only 1 CP more expensive than Spinning Staff for Mystic, which does equal damage), and with the Life Steal spell I could net myself a bit of healing. I have a wardrobe of dark browns and grays in mind.

Not much point, honestly create_universe August 4 2009, 14:59:38 UTC
The Warlock header is now something of a red headed stepchild. I'm not aware of a single Warlock in game at the moment, though I'm guessing there has to be one or two out there somewhere. The spellstriking ability is nice and something of an attribute saver. The typical 5 damage skills available to melee headers all cost two Earth, while spell striking a 5 damage by cold/ice spell only costs a single air. The Warlock header is fairly light on skills and it is obviously meant to be an add on header to something else ( ... )

From what I have seen thus far, I would have to agree with create_universe. Looking at it, it doesn't have the greatest benefits to be a power-gamer header.
