Madrigal

I've been totally obnoxious lately, pestering people with Madrigal questions. I may as well be more efficient and do it en masse. It's also easier to ignore me here, if you'd rather not bother. :P ( Read more... )

I should have mentioned some things in preface...

Yes, I *am* going to be playing Madrigal. I *am* moving by Spring, and I *can* afford the trip, the costuming/props, and the game itself. Now that I have things here straightened out and can definitely do this, I've been getting really excited about playing the game. My "floon", one might say, is RAGING.

I have seen all sorts of hammers and staves and two handed weapons made from bone. A polearm is not a blunt weapon, so I'm uncertain if it can be made from bone. If you intend to use of bone weapon, presumbably for the Sacred Weapon of Bone skill, then you arrange before and event to have a runesmith with the skill create the weapon for you. Then at the beginning of every event you need to have to runesmith of another runesmith with the Boneworking skill agreed to repair the weapon for you.

There are a fair number of smiths in the game. Getting your armor repaired during downtime or after a battle is generally an easy affair. Getting your armor repaired by a smith during a battle is a bit harder since that costs stats. Most groups have someone within their group handle the smithing needs for the whole group.

When I think of polearms I think of halberds and the like, while others (some NERO players, for example) think of a meat cleaver on a stick. Reading the description in the rules, though, seemed like it might cover all extra-long weapons, like hammers on sticks. Due to that particular language I'm wondering if I can score that extra eight inches.

Has this come up and been answered before?

I've never seen this particular question come up before.

The Madrigal Weapon rules are sadly in need of a little upkeep.

Because of this, certain skills that refer to them are a little...quirky.

However, in specific to Sacred Weapon of Bone:

1) The Intention, in terms of Weapon Classification, should read either "One Handed Blunt (46 inches)" or "Two Handed Blunt (64 Inches)."

2) If, as a PC, you had a very cool weapon rep. for either a Bone Staff (64 inches) or a "Blunt" Polearm (72 inches) you could make the arguement to the Staff that either of those could count, because, currently, the written rule is ambiguous. If you do have (or are thinking of making) and want to use such a weapon rep, let me know and I will bring it up at the next Staff Meeting and get back to you!

I don't believe you can follow the White Court and be a shaman. They don't even like you to be a shaman and follow the Pale. It's sort of... the best analogy I can think of is how the Chinese revere ancestor spirits and attribute good/bad things to their influence. You'd pray to the spirits to protect you in battle, rather than Myrkorim.

As far as the team goes, I can tell you we have a shaman (Valerie) on team now. You may want to talk with her about how uncomfortable we make her feel with all our Church focus.

It would be cool to have another Wayward though. You're about as rare as Kh'rewyn.

It may be a silly oversight, but I actually didn't think much about prayer in all of this. The character would venerate and commune with the spirits while recognizing and honoring the gods of the White Court. I didn't think at all about who he would whisper a prayer to when heading into battle.

Yay for shamans. :)

It's a fine line that I walk in regards to my shaman/white court comfort, but the Seekers have been kind enough to help blend those lines a bit.

And another thing! tom_bulmer November 24 2009, 04:19:25 UTC
I want to get more people's input (not that everyone hasn't already been very helpful :P ). I would appreciate it if somebody popular made a post in their journal pointing people here. :P

I suspect most mantles were made by the players/friends of players. If you're looking for store-type-thingees, http://larp.com/madrigal/links.html has some pretty good lists for places you can buy cloaks and things.

The Half Moon cloaks are fairly ubiquitous up north, and are pretty top-end, materials/construction wise. They're also kinda expensive (compared to getting a friend to throw one together for you, or some of the cheaper stores) - but that's mostly because good wool is not cheap.

If you want something more personalized, you can also probably send a note out to the Madrigal list. There are quite a few seamstresses on there who are very talented and work on commission.

I have no idea if she works on commission or prefers the life of the reclusive artiste, but what JJ isn't telling you is that she is one of the people who makes costuming. ;)

My mantle and cowl was married by Mary Schneblen's mother.
