I’ve got this friend who says that the human condition, the human nature, being human, is to be cold and alone. Like someone lost in the woods. Safe to say he’s a ‘glass half empty’ kind of guy. Still, I can’t help but think that he has a point sometimes.

Wouldn't call it human nature, but humankind's fate to be cold and alone. That's how you're born, that's how you'll die. There's no leverage for man. No excuses. No great messiah to scapegoat us all out of our own fuckups this round. Your fate will always lead to the same path at the end.
Man is an island.

In all seriousness, though, there's a line in Frost's poem, Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by. Up to you whether it makes the fuckin' difference. It's actually a sarcastic poem mockin' idealists who assign significance to every decision they make. Frost was a bit of a misanthropist himself.
Which goes without sayin', if you got any skeletons in the closet, best to keep 'em there and walk away. Weigh out too much in the decisions you make, it's gonna take you under.
...sorry. I'm talkin' too much.
