Hey P

I'm tired of my notebook being a memory hole that I throw things into, so I intend to integrate it somehow into my GTD system. I'm thinking I will number all the pages of my notebooks so that I can index them. (I started with the page I was on, called that 'zero', and will make the pages before that negatives). Don't you number your notebook pages ( Read more... )

What does GTD stand for again?

I used to number my notebook pages, but I got tired of it. Just physically numbering the pages, I mean, is what I got tired of. When I was doing it, it was actually pretty handy --I usually put titles at the top of the pages & put those titles in the index, and it was easy for me to find stuff later. I may end up sorry that I stopped...

...but maybe not, my new system is just to fill up the notebooks with whatever's going through my head. It helps me think. If I get any good thoughts, I pull them out & put them in other places to be worked on.

I guess the thing is, I was working on multiple projects before & now I'm working on just the one project. So everything in the notebook pertains to the one thing, and I'm working on one part of that thing at a time. It's a very linear process & doesn't need elaborate systems to track.

I see. My notebook currently helps me to think, but some of the things I think of then go away because they're out of my head. I'm trying to determine... well, what thing is low-effort enough that I'll actually do it: numbering, or recopying? I don't want to pull out because I like having this historical archive of what was thought of when, and what was being thought around it...

Recopying is really a pain, and then you have to organize that.... Try numbering! It's not that troublesome, I just think that the need no longer justified the effort for me. It's funny to read through an index, too. It's like a speedy version of what you were thinking during that notebook.

Yes, I've numbered the pages of one of my notebooks. When it was full, I made an index of the subjects and found it to be very useful.
